Is anyone out there paying for the house they got during the first lottery? I've heard mixed sentiments in-game and here on the forums and am curious to see what the actual split might be among forum-goers.

The posters are available to everyone at 3-40mils. It’s a poster merchant and you are not really paying for the house. If you want a poster get one, if not keep your gils.
So it's just another gilsink?
Seeing as the price of the posters is the same price as housing plots and SE specifically said the NPC is there for people to voluntarily pay for the plot they got refunded, you really, actually, truly, are paying for the house. You just get a wall decoration in return as a thank you and apology.
Yes and no. Anyone with the gil can buy them so yeah, in that regard it's a gil sink and quite the flex. For people like me who were impacted by the bug, it's a little something to give us in way of apology for the screw up when we pay for the plot we got for free.
The people who didn't take their deposits out ended up paying for their plots and did not receive a poster.
No one received a poster: you have to buy the posters and everyone can buy them, independent of the house bug. In the end, it is essentially just a poster vendor and yeah, you’d have to shell another 3+mil gils to get one.
No, the way it is implemented, you don’t pay for the house. You simply get the opportunity like everyone else to buy a poster at an insane price.
We ended up getting a large fc house for free and we were pretty happy to have waited a bit for that. There was a notice posted on May 13th announcing that the results would come out on the 16th and that payment would be voluntary if you had retrieved your gils by then. The delay was short so not everyone saw it.
The ones that end up being screwed are not the ones who got the house for free but the people who didn’t take their gils back and have to pay the equivalent of a house price again to get a poster.
To me, it is the latter who deserve an apology (their gils should have been returned) and everyone else who can’t get a house because of the inadequate supply (some people have been bidding since the beginning and went through the bug too).
It is an odd way to say “sorry”.
Why would I pay millions of gil for a poster anyone can buy?
That's not a reason for me to pay millions of gil for a poster
The same reason people pay millions of dollars for a car. It goes from point A to point B. Nissan Sentra or Bugatti Chiron; they both get you to the mall.
Or maybe that's a bad example because the retort would be, "but, yeah, for 3 million the car goes 0-60 in 2.5 and top speed of 265 mph."
OK, fair. A better example would be:
The same reason people pay millions for a watch. It tells time. The name on the face may be "Casio" or it may be "Patek Philippe," but it still just tells the time. One costs $50 and one costs $3.5 million.
I don't understand how one would be confused as to why people spend exorbitant amounts of money for things. Some prefer the "quality," of course, and want the expensive item because they simply want the finer things in life. But many (dare I say, most) do it just to boast or show off their wealth.
