Need more things to do with all this materia

I think we need a new option for materia use. You can slot tons of materia in armor and armor itself produces materia so for every two pieces you put into a single piece of armor, chances are you can get 3 pieces out of it before too long. I'm literally drowning in materia, from running quests, dungeons, and extracting it from gear, I have too much materia and not enough ways to get rid of it.

The market boards are of course my first thought but if I'm having this problem of an issue then other people are probably having the same problem. We need a way to expend it, and while giving it to the rebuilding efforts in Doma is one way to use it, there could be others.

Fusing it is too random and doesn't necessarily produce something of value.
So what else can we do with it? Perhaps use it as some form of currency in some new event, or to buy exclusive items from a vault?

Time to use materia for our relic weapon stats again.

Players used to complain about how hard it was to get the materia they needed for their gear without paying extortion level prices. In response, SE made it much easier to get materia.

Now you're complaining about having too much materia and want more things to do with it.

Honestly, just vendor it if the prices are too low on the marketboard. Trying to give it more uses could push it right back to the original problem.

Looking at grade 9 and 10, this seems to be fair enough. But at grade 8 and lower... you realy get spammed with it and its rarely worth it to put it on the market.

Except for crafter materia, which while accessible, are still significantly harder to obtain. Values here just seem to be much better balanced. But for combat materia... i generaly dont even consider them worthy to sell. Even if they would be 50 gil above the minimum value... there is a very big chance the next day its already back to the minimum again. They realy could use something here that makes this materia a bit more useful as a method of at least getting rid of them. Even if this means it can just be exchanged for something of a certain value.

And maybe on that: give retainers a method to spend materia. For example by consuming a materia (it doesnt matter which type, a DoL job can just consume a combat materia here), they get bonus XP for the next venture as long as its within the level range (materia 1 wont work for a lvl 70 venture, while grade 6 will). This surely will inflate the prices then, but not too much since its not that valuable either. Especialy on the 1h ventures, this is going to be expensive (relative towards gain) fast. While the 18h ventures would simply restrict consumption rate.

And if the 1h ventures still appears to still drain materia too fast, and boost the price too far. We can just change it to having a fixed duration so for those ventures it might be consumed after 4 of those (net result is still less xp per materia. but its mostly about the time restriction here). When chaning retainer job, this already takes a massive time, and this could be a nice way to speed it up, and also drain some of the materia.
