Brand new PC, other Steam games run fine, FFXIV crashes no error on load screen

I have a brand new PC built with some of the latest hardware, but after trying many things we can't figure out why the game immediately crashes after pressing play on the load screen. And with no error.

I've uninstalled and installed it 3 times already, lowered the drivers for the video card, disabled the firewall, tried to run it through GeForce, but nothing has worked. Other Steam games run perfectly fine.

I feel as though I've had a similar issue that popped up yesterday. Differences though is that I am not through Steam, nor is it a new PC build. Just worked fine one day and then didn't the next. But in terms of steps it seems the same. I can get logged in to the launcher just fine, but after I hit play, the game launches, but I never make it to the home screen. Just a black screen that eventually goes unresponsive and then closes with no error output. I've done game restore, currently doing a fresh reinstall. Only thing I haven't done yet is the firewall bit, but similar, kind of running out of ideas.

well, I think I solved my issue. Seemed to be an outdated graphics card driver that caught up to me. No idea why I didn't think of checking that earlier, but oh well. Good luck on your end!

Oof. Yeah, looks like my partner installed the wrong drivers when setting up the PC, and there was the blocker with apparently when you install windows, they leave out Windows Media Player and Media Feature pack. So we reinstalled those and voila! That did the trick. Yay! We got it up and running!
