Where to hippos come from?

I just got my hippo cart mount today, and realized I've never seen wild hippos anywhere. Do the Arkasodara construct them from other animal parts?
I suppose you could day they come from the areas of Thavnair you can't reach, like the islands offshore..

Vanaspati is I believe stated to be where most hippos in Thavnair come from. It’s where thr Hippo Riders are originally from after all.

I read somewhere (It can be true or false) about Hippos originating from Meracydia and they made to Thavnair via trade routes.

It's stated in the quest, that the hippos are from another part of Thavnair, an area we have not yet seen.

The hippo minion is where that bit is mentioned.

Given that there's also kangaroos and koalas over there, it feels safe to assume Meracydia is a mash-up of Africa and Australia when it comes to native wildlife.
