Which part of summoner's rotation am I meant to find satisfying?

Prior to 6.0 I started the summoner zodiac relic and recently I found it half-finished in my chocobo saddlebag. I'm currently partway through the book phase, so I've been tasked with a selection of fates among other things. In Shadowbringers the fates while basic were pretty enjoyable - the upkeep of two dots and egi assaults required some attention.

I don't really understand where I am meant to find the engaging gameplay in its current incarnation. I am aware that I'm talking about sub50 smn, but since it hardly changes I don't consider that to be too significant. The order of the carbuncles/primals hardly seems to matter, and even at 90 they hardly change the rotation away from that one button. Is there something else I'm missing here? I can't see any other skills in the actions and traits menu.

I would like to finish this relic, but as it stands I'm struggling to find enjoyment in the job and thus motivation to continue. I guess I could find multiclass mind gear and instead assist my chocobo, but I don't really think that would be particularly fun either.

Honestly, the visuals are what’s been the real hook for a lot of people. But at level 50, the best visual you have is the Enkindles, which are the same as ShB.

SMN is a shadow of its former self and a blatantly rushed, unfinished job. Do not expect them to improve on it, just like they left healers as glare mage for the last 3 years after players mistakenly assumed they had something planned to follow the complete gutting of that role.
As far as casters are concerned, turn to BLM if you want a fun, engaging job with a high skill ceiling that is guaranteed not to get ruined overnight (yoshiP actually cares about it).

ARR relic with any class is pain. This has little to do with smn. At lower levels you're not going to find much need to watch rotation. That will change later, when you find yourself needing maneuverability at some times vs. others. To each their own. Some people like being locked in place to do their rotations with BLM. SMN is the opposite and RDM is in the middle.

I can't say the battle animations are really doing it for me. They're nice and all, but I just don't think they should be what the strength of the job rests on.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but I already have WAR,SCH,BRD,PLD,BLM and DRG zodiac relics. None of them felt as insubstantial in the synced fates. Including, surprisingly, scholar. Admittedly I did the others in shadowbringers, so the most recent changes to BLM, WAR and I think BRD hadn't yet happened.

RE: manoeuverability, is instant casting not the niche of the entire physical ranged role? Without something to differentiate them, why have casters and p.ranged grouped differently? There's very little content where it matters what flavour your outgoing damage is.

The answer is none. No build up, no self-improvement, no resource management, no busy burst windows. Nada.

Now go and look at your different colored attacks that do the exact same thing since level thirty or whatever. Because thats all the fun you get.

Turn your brain off and watch the vfx. Do not think about anything. It's what they learned people wanted with Stormblood and we've now hit the logical conclusion of that design track. Doesn't matter what you do to the job, how broken or boring you make it, as long as it has pretty sparkles people will clamor about how amazing it is.

Let's not act like the job wasn't actually broken before this change. Pet AI is and always has been terrible (in most MMOs) and that was a factor in the changes they made. All the DPS had to be shifted to the caster for it to be more consistent. Sure, there could be room for improvement, but it works way better than it did before 6.0. So it's not for you. Oh well. Over a dozen other options exist.

except they could've actually make a good functioning pet system it's been done before. i loved PSO2s pet job combat and it would actually promote picking and choosing 3 seperate eikons/primals to cycle between instead of just here's ifrit garuda and titan for 90 levels :^). bahamut and phoenix could even stay as big boi can't change summons
