PS4: Distant terrain/objects/monsters render oddly
Date & Time: 6/11/22, 11:00PM ST
Frequency: 100%
World name: Zalera
Character name: Gunhildr Fisticuffs
In-game time: N/A
Area and coordinates: Not specific
Steps:
1. Launch FFXIV on PS4 with any character
2. Apply the following Video settings (under System Configurations):
-PS4 Standard
-Draw Quality High (it appears to happen on Normal as well, but my settings are usually on High)
- Turning on LODs will result in more noticeable visual disruption (as many LODs do not match or render similarly to their mesh counterparts), but issues will occur regardless of whether it's applied.
3. Fly over Garlemald's Eblan Rime area (it was easiest to see this issue occurring there for me), and observe some monsters lack a dither effect on their model when they enter/leave render distance from the player, resulting in them abruptly "popping" into or out of existence.
4. Notice as well that the game appears to have difficulty rendering as many objects onscreen as expected -- the view distance for objects and terrain appears to be lower than it had been about a month ago, though I can't be 100% sure of this.
This appears to be a global problem on PS4, but it may be several separate issues -- the game just repeatedly fails to render its distant visuals in a consistent or expected way. Here is an example of distant textures loading in and out while the camera pans over a close object in New Gridania (observe the upper right area of the capture, on the distant water): https://youtu.be/FH0DoNVVaJo
