Is unique really so unique?

It seems most people agree that there is a lack of uniqueness and job definetion between the classes with the current armory system.
So Im kind of curious how this is going to be handled, but more so if its going to destroy possible hybrids, or irradicate the thought. Im definitly in a love hate relationship with how things works, being able use abilities from a wide pool, and at the same time annoyed to go out of my way to get them.
Its looking as now, that the higher the level is, the more likely the skill or spell will be class specific, and that although cap is only 50, its sure to raise at some point bring in more tier II/III/IV's of the now current versions. So is the fine tuning of a class, going to restrict the creation of a job?
Some classes are fairly easy, it doesnt take too much work to be a WHM, or BLM type or a typical melee (I think WAR or MNK), who are usually the ones with this issue having similier builds.
we've seen the break downs of FFXI job = FFXIV job A20+B36+C50.
I feel we already lack the gear to make most past classes a success, and discourage us for instance trying to make these attempts. Also I almost wonder if the game will ever have use for hybrid jobs, although things are sure to change, would a MRD ever be useful copying a DRK? Somehow I cant imagine subsituting DEX or STR for PIE and INT here, questioning will we ever even have the attribute points to make these possible.
There is also penelty when trying to do anything outside of your specific class, main concern gear in my case. For a GLA to take on a RDM there is no gear that wouldnt make the class by far weaker than that of a GLA or a THM just playing thier own skill set. And Im sure more class merging combinations will come available in the future, but will there be anyway to favor them, with gear and skills becoming more specialized and restricted?

Confused, Job/Class what? i see these same thing some others dont, its just a word at the end of the day, but im confused on the question, will the class be restricted? I was hoping they would make it so like: Blizzard 1-2 is unrestricted but 3 oo no thats restricted. Because that would just be lame, BUT if they made it so some new... Blizzard type spell (Includes Frost? Freezes Mob temporally, etc) could be more specific because its a unique spell. Its not: same Spell + More Dmg.

But you have some uniqueness now, A DoW cannot cure as good as a DoM, and their raduis is reduced + aoe off. But i dont think that is what you're after lol

Dont know how they are going to do it, but the style they have now will work on being unique. The problem is that we just dont have enough weapon types to suppose this. As of now everyone is kinda the same, with the same abilities. So the pool to draw from is shallow, once we have 4 times as many jobs to pick and choose from is where the uniqueness will show it's self. As for me, CON/THM@20 PUG/MRD/GLD/LNC @ 30... how many others have this same combo? But once we have 20+ weapon class's to level then people will start having different abilities from one another.

Somewhere its explained that Class is the pool your playing and deal with weapon specialization, and the total pool end result is the job making it a role specialization, is the best I can sum up, ill find a link.
but Affinity traits greatly affect penelty later levels, and although not yet 100% its a huge difference from what I see with cure spells. Been a while since I played, but I think on THM cure II is about the same as sacrifice II, and cure III heals more than sacrifice III, making it IMO more useful as a basic heal if there is another THM casting sacrifice III, and more so than rotating different sacrifice levels killing the high level regan effect. Its most annoying casting sacrifice III, and having someone else overcast it with II (hopefully that will be fixed)
But blizzard your blizzard 1/2/3 is quite a perfect example of a RDM scenario, who could use LVL III in XI but moreso elemental nukes are by far better the astral/umbral on a THM base. But if a "RDM" type wanted to use a sword, yet cast, dealing melee blows inbetween spells. there is currently not that many restriction (would only be giving up sear), but then not that much gear to support it. the same couldnt be said later on if they start releasing to many restricted abilities.

I actually had a thought about the whole "class uniqueness" and the classes are "what make Final Fantasy" shtick.

Funny how the most loved Final Fantasy(FFVII), does not have a class based structure at all. Neither does VIII, neither does X, XII or XIII. Sure, each character uses a type of weapon that MIGHT indicate what they do, but you're pretty much given free reign as to what abilities they actually have. I don't see people going nuts on those games for that specific reason.

In fact, the armory system in its current incarnation is really just a further iteration on the concepts present in those FF entries.

someone's definition of what *is* final fantasy might be vastly different from the games *you* have played.

The classes are unique. Take a closer look sometime.

Main issue is FFXI brought so much life and memories to the people who played it.
I mean come on we all thought it was the best game in the world, I know It was to me ^_^. So seeing change in the next mmo is hard to transition to. It really doesn't matter to much about how the class//job system worked in the single FF games.

The way the job system worked in FFXI was really successful and worked very well. I guess that's why we all expected to see something really similar to that in FFXIV.

Back on topic, not sure if I had enough experience to argue about this with my five days of play time. Though with the time iv played, iv seen class uniqueness.
