So how long till Kenki gets removed?

Back in Stormblood we had an issue SE did not like, that being SAM was designed around landing these great big Iajutsu hits and instead people were avoiding those in favor of Shinten spam. So SE naturally nerfed things to get people to stop that.

Well the removal of Kaiten had the unfortunate effect of bringing back Stormblood levels of viable Shinten spam: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXDHt0ueL4E

Kaiten before its removal pushed for paying attention to resource management, you needed enough for Iajutsu while also not overcapping so you could Ogi. Thus Shinten was a Kenki Dump but you could not over invest in Shinten spam lest you nerf yourself on your big hits you were designed around.

Since Shinten spam was something SE did not like but Kaiten's removal has turned kenki into the Shinten Spam Meter how long do you think before they just remove kenki entirely?

SAM's mobility skills are already on a cooldown and there is the precedent of Monk's damage dealing dash before EW. The mobility skills do not need a kenki cost to limit them.

Senei and Guren are already on 2 minute cooldowns, they technically do not need a kenki cost at all, especially since Ogi the skill attached to a 2 minute cooldown kenki generator does not have a kenki cost at all.

Shinten and Kyuten could simply be given a cooldown and potency increase and they would function like similar oGCDs on any other job.

So why keep kenki if kenki management no longer exists and all it does is fuel a gameplay style that SE already does not want people doing?

The levels of disappointment I have experienced, indescribable. I am just mentally preparing myself for the next one which probably would include the following

1. Meditate Gauge removed
2. Kenki Gauge removed
3. Tsubame fused with Midare
4. Jinpu and Shifu fused as 1 buff
5. Shinten removed
6. Meditate removed
7. Shoha and Shoha II removed
8. True North removed due to no more positionals
9. All flank and rear bonuses removed
10. Meikyo Charge reduced back to 1
11. Ikishoten is Removed
12. Ogi Namikiri still slashes twice but only registers 1 damage number.
13. Ogi Namikiri is now a Circular attack
14. Third Eye now lasts for 10 seconds cause training wheels
15. Kuyten is Removed
16. Enpi is changed from Weaponskill to Ability Enpi
17. Gekko Kasha are now Circular attacks
18. Midare is now a Circular attack you know to streamline it
19. Guren removed and Senei now also a Circular attack more streamlined btw

Lastly - NEW feature: ALL Samurai skills CANNOT Crit/DH for you know " Consistency reasons.

If any of this happens would I be surprised? you know what? ... at this point I would not be surprised anymore no

So we don't have to babysit another cooldown - that alone is worth keeping it as a gauge.

They really could just remove the kenki gauge at this point and put shinten on a 6 second cooldown. That's literally what it all boils down to now. I mean you can pool kenki for every 2 minute burst window, but it isn't entirely necessary. Just simplify it even further and make it even more brain dead to play.

Unless by some miracle we get kaiten back in 6.2, its pretty likely we'll see kenki gone by 7.0 and with SAM players weaving gyoten into their rotations now for extra damage we'll likely see gyoten and yaten lose their potencies as well.

You can barely even pool kenki. Thanks to Ikishoten, the most you can really pool is 50. That's up to 500 potency. The difference between a SAM who pools 50 kenki for 20% worth of damage buffs and a SAM who just mindlessly spams Shinten is 100 potency every 2 minutes. That's one Third Eye. That's like what, 15-20 DPS?

They really could just get rid of Ikishoten at this point. It was only necessary because we needed enough kenki to use Kaiten in the opener. We don't need Shinten in the opener, and we generate plenty enough for Senei. Ironically, removing Ikishoten would make kenki management more interesting now, because we'd be able to pool 100 kenki instead of 50.

Kenki is in a really sorry state right now.

Yeah, that's more or less what I mean. You can, but the gain is so minimal that there's almost no reason to. Sure if you're some huge massive numbers nerd but if your fights are coming down to whether or not that 15 dps matters, then you can probably find some more efficient ways to handle other parts of it. Not saying that dps doesn't matter and things can't come down to the wire, but there's always something you can fix. Hate that I have to say that since people get the impression that I think it doesn't matter when I say things like that.

I'd be happy with the varied costs to our kenki spenders back. It's a little boring with everything being the exact same cost. It would give more choice to management I think.... basically, I think ShB SAM was the best blend we've had. It didn't devolve to shinten spam like SB did, it didn't have the strict 2 min burst window, kenki was used in multiple ways, the kit just... made sense.

Now it's just... so same-y that you could literally make an adjustment to shinten and kyuten under Ikishoten and it would be no different from having senei and guren.

Hope they bring the job back to some semblance of goodness soon
