I main AST, and I've started swapping off to NIN for Volcanic Heart.
I think it's fine for some maps to be more melee friendly than others, but I agree that it's a bit much.
Casting offensively there is difficult enough; healing is an absolute nightmare.
If this was a game like WoW, where you can't switch your class by hitting a button, it would bother me a lot more.
I thoroughly agree. This map is ABSOLUTELY miserable for casters.
I understand the skills involved in weaving LOS, but this map feels like it tips the balance to far against. Couple this with the explosion phase, and you have a map that is the most Anti-BLM thing you can make.
Funny how line of sight is bad for casters but jobs like WAR/RDM can use their gap closers completely freely through all the walls and kill/stun you from behind like 3 sets of walls :p
I like that map tho . Reminds me alot of Bomberman game xD
I played BLM in that map pre-buffs several times. All i can say is, without 6.11, it is literally unplayable as BLM.
Even post-buff, BLM will still have a lot of problems there as most of the corridors are short, narrow, has lots of corners, the map itself has a lot of rapid movement, and the usual LoS.
It is better to switch to something with gap closers or instant cast. SMN is pretty good for area denials though, but RDM can perform terrifying well here as most of their AoE CC will hit the whole team pretty easily. Tanks and WHM are also at their elements here. If you dont want to play in melee range, skipping the map entirely is also an option.
It is a fun map though.
My biggest complaint with Volcanic heart is the damn railing knobs or whatever it is that is creating these small stubs at certain corners of some pillars. If there's going to be architecture that I can get stuck on when I'm trying to get around a corner going as close to it as possible, then maybe make it a bit more obvious instead of a knowledge check for which corners you can't hug.
Completely agree, at the middle especially it is hellish to look around ahead because the camera will shoot straight forward till everyone's backs block you view.
Make the camera do something sims style where it makes walls go semi transparent or something.
I meant how these jobs literally can cast through walls on these maps while casters struggle. Like for example you can stand behind a pillar and still WAR can cast their stun from the other side to you regardless of you showing yourself to them at all. There is something wrong with the walls in that map and it is clear. I don't know where this hostility came from? :p
