I need help picking a race for role play!

Hello there everyone, Im really into role-playing as the hero and all of that funky fantasy stuff. I was just wondering what's the best race for that? I'm looking for like a race that I can fit as a warrior and a laid-back friend. I thought roegadyn would work with that but they are all kinda limited with the skin tones and noses... especially the noses.

So which race is better with that? I was thinking of an ex tribe runaway miqo'te or xaela but they both have their pros and cons and I really haven't seen anyone on reddit or here (I'm probably bad with research lol) compare them from that perspective.

I like the regeneration of body parts with the xaela but I'm not too fond of their horns in helmets. And miqo'te is overall great with being casual and friendly but the fully tails In armor kinda make me lose that serious hero vibe when I look at one.

I don't want to sound dimissive, but why not both? You can try to design 2 characters. Try to adapt their backstories and personalities, then if you aren't set on one that you really prefer, you can always pick one, see how it goes. Then the other, and compared the pro and cons, and see which one fits you the best.

I don't do a lot of RP myself mind you, but I think it's always good to keep yourself open minded rather than lock yourself to a PC you might not enjoy playing in the long run. Though, in any case, NSA. If you don't like it, you can just move on.

Frankly, a large portion of the RP community takes excessive liberties with their interpretation of the lore around that stuff anyways, so doing "research" among those sources can lead to a pretty skewed view.

If you want your character to be a runaway, I'd suggest... focus more on the character's specific circumstances. Rather than playing up an ungrounded stereotype like "moon miqos are matriarchal so the men must be terribly oppressed!" and so on. Though IIRC there is an au ra tribe known for kidnapping so that could be an easy tie in. But, again, if you focus on specific circumstances, you don't need to rely on stuff like that and may end up with a deeper character with a more detailed past, etc.

Also, I'd suggest posting detailed questions in the lore forum. The people that hang there can give you page-if-not-longer answers on just about any particular detail you might care to ask about. Like the different au ra tribes and such.

Has a ton of really good information detailing naming but also explaining a bit about the lore behind the races. The Xaela naming conventions I think is an amazing resource for RP purposes because they break down every tribe and give a little explanation about each if you want to help with a backstory or whatnot.
