Please stop using macros to mark the enemy you are attacking

You are overriding all the marks fpr priority by swapping between targets.

Counterpoint: please continue to mark your burst targets so I can tell when hard CC is going out. "Priority" is constantly shifting based on enemy resources and positioning, and the best target will almost always be the target who you have the best chance to kill or force off the point.

counterpoint: if priority shift, u can still attack what ever u think is the priority without moving markers. Deleting the rest of markers to mark a top 1 is countering your team.

As far as the 5 enemies are alive, shifting priorities is not going to happen that much, and you are going to delete the 1,2,3 markers just to leave a 1 marker and when 1 is not in range for the rest of your team, they will not be able to focus a single target.

Not to mention 2 idiots with the same macro changing the marker every second, stop.

Kill priority shifts every single time someone uses Purify/Guard, steps past your frontliners, charges an LB, regains Purify/Guard, or breaks/connects line-of-sight.

And u leave the rest of the team with no target when is split for X reason or 2 guys with the same macro don't stop changing the target. Just stop, you are no leader, noone is. Just put 1,2,3 marks at the start and stick to them, attack the lowest number possible that is not Guard'ed. I already lost several games with 2 guys deciding their target is the most important.

I think you can do better than that. Almost all of my most drastic stomps have been because of a tank or melee aggressively calling a new target every few seconds, often with countdown macros to avoid giving the target away early. Unpredictable bursts on unpredictable targets strain the support roles, put people under quick pressure to use their defensive stuff, and force people away from the objective for easier followup bursts.

Putting all your GCDs consistently into the same person/people lets the rest of the enemy team run wild, and wastes opportunities to punish aggressive pushes or mistakes. Coordinating burst with hard CC, on the player who's currently most vulnerable, is the only way to reliably kill anyone—strict target priority hurts a team IMO.

One game goes like this:

"Attacking Dark Knight!"
"Attacking Dark Knight!"
"Attacking Dark Knight!"

Then next game:

Huge number 1 mark on top of the enemy paladin's head throughout the whole match.

The marker on someone going 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 by the second is completely unhelpful.

This is used to coordinate a surprise target switch, so that the target being bursted doesn't recognize they're in danger until it's too late—preventing them from pulling away or using defensive cooldowns.

This way of coordinating burst was important enough to Feast that Square added the "Focus Attack" quick-chat to replace marker macros (and then removed it, lol). With 6.1's stronger CC and weaker healers, it's no longer required to effectively pressure kills, but I don't think it ever hurts—if your switch is clean and committed enough, it can often kill players before they have the opportunity to Guard or Purify.

Gotta add to the pile here and say this is blatantly false. If you're not shifting priorities/targets based on the factors around you then you're not playing it right. You can't just keep wailing on one dude the entire time until they're dead. My partner who is a much more experienced vet in pvp games (I don't usually play them cuz I get super invested/kinda toxic sometimes and I'm working on that) like Overwatch and stuff explained to me as "pick the person who is currently killable."

Killable relies on a few different factors:

1. Purify use
2. HP remaining
3. MP remaining
4. Position in relation to the rest of their/your team
5. Pressure they're currently applying to your team if unchecked (this one's a bit iffy)

Even if you base your initial markers on Class and/or skill level present after the first engagement, you're going to have scenarios where LB + Life + Positioning + Team Comp will influence what target is killable when. I don't need to focus on the WHM if I can kill their SAM/NIN friends right now. I don't need to focus on a RDM if their WAR is about to go down leaving them defenseless.

Shifting targets is essential to securing kills. That WHM (despite its kit) can't 1v5 you, and that WAR can't really stand up to 5 people bursting them at once either. By shifting top priority consistently it doesn't matter what 2-5 are, because your team is moving consistently together to coordinate attacks.

Did you help them kill the target they were calling out? Because if not, that might be part of why you lost, lol
