Why did Gunbreaker need potency buffs?

I don't understand. I was under the impression GBR was doing great in the damage department. Why was an extra 240 potency a minute necessary?

Not my main class, not gonna take freebies from fellow tanks. I just don't get it. WAR and PLD r the ones that need some love damage wise.

From the way I see it the class distinction in tanks is that war is SUPER self sustaining / tanky since they have life steal and all of that, meanwhile gunbreakers niche is all about damage so the buffs were likely to keep gunbreakers damage superiority in tact. From what I've read most healers don't really need to worry about warriors dying as often as gunbreaker since warriors having such good sustain, I'm pretty sure it's same for paly although I'm not 100% sure

GnB's defensive kit is actually quite strong and it was already the 2nd highest dps tank, so I'm not really seeing the need for those potency buffs...except for the Gnashing Fang one, just because it is now better than Burst Strike and that makes our 3 minute and 9 minute burst window less nonsensical.

One of the side effects from the buff is that Gnashing Fang + Jugular Rip(580 potency) is now MORE potency than Burst Strike + Hypervelocity(560). Meaning that it is now better to No Mercy before your Gnashing fang and lose a Burst Strike + Hypervelocity than previously when you would No Mercy after Gnashing Fang because Burst Strike + Hypervelocity was more potency.

Honestly, only time ud have trouble with sustain is with double DRK. Other 3 have extremely powerful sustain tools to share between each other. I dont think healing is a valid reason for doing less dmg any more. All tanks can recover from their invulns by healing. Pali is immune. GBR is immune and can pop 2 healing skills. WAR can pop 1-3 healing skills. Even DRK can recover from walking dead with maybe one healer OGCD to help out.

Yeah good of u to mention that. That did indeed feel weird for optimal dmg.

That's exactly what I meant with "It makes our 3 minute and 9 minute burst less nonsensical".
Because using NM after Gnashing was rather counterintuitive.

Yeah, but if aligning the rotation was the goal, PLD needed it much more than GNB. Either you drop an Atonement to align party buffs (which still doesn't work) or you hold a stack of Sword Oath until after you apply Goring Blade so that you get an Atonement instead of Riot Blade under FoF. Plus there's FoFing before the pull and different timings (before or after Riot Blade) for FoF depending on party comp...PLD is incredibly janky right now.

IMO what GNB needed was more range on Continuation and probably honestly a skill reduction. Right now it's frankly annoying to move the boss during Continuation windows and also to weave defensive cooldowns without clipping your rotation, especially with the way most fights are designed now where you dump all your cooldowns at once rather than cycling then. Personally I'd take using my brain once every 1.5 min over jamming a button because the skill won't go off all the dang time.

We really didn't need a potency buff.. what we needed is more range on our attacks, not a lot but at least let me not be inside the hitbox some when I'm doing my bullet rotation.. that and a bit more sustain power if that's what they're doing to tanks now.. tho I believe DRK should get more self-healing WAY before any other tanks gets more

I mean, it might not have been needed, but I'm certainly not complaining. :p
