I mean, depending on their identities, then it will probably reveal their origins as well.
Are you expecting them to be characters we already know? Otherwise I'm not sure there is a distinction.
Finding out someone's secret identity is meaningless if you have no idea who that person is. I think back to an episode of Justice League where Lex Luthor was in Flash's body. Looks at himself in the mirror to find out who he really is and is let down when he has no clue who this random guy is.
I don't want to be let down when I find out the Twelve are actually another random 12 Ancients or something equally as meaningless.
They dangled "True Identities" in front of me. I want to find out that Totaru has been Nophica this whole time or something like that. Otherwise they really should have gone with 'True Origins' of the Twelve as their lead in.

"True identities" can easily be about what rather than who they really are, and I think you're reading too much into the difference of phrasing. What they are and where they originated from are two facets of the same question.
