Some problems if you shut down housing.

"We will continue to monitor the situation and may shut down the housing area."

That would be very bad. First of all, I couldn't log in this morning do to logging out in my estate (outside) I would have thought I would have logged into my host city, like when you log out in Firmament. But instead I could not log in, error 90002.

Second, since the only way anyone gets to garden is with an estate, starting a garden with expensive seeds and dirt was one of the first things I did. It will die if you shut down the area for a day or more.

So please consider these things.

Reading the context of the message, it seems that they're not stating that housing would be completely removed, but merely the residential areas taken offline for an extended period while they resolve the issues as a worse case scenario (if the issues with the lottery could not be fixed in a normal maintenance window).

Given Yoshi's previous comments (the last just two days ago) there is nothing to suggest that SE will completely remove housing from the game as a last resort. So don't worry about it too much.
