If the winner is 0...

Does that not mean that, if the system is counting from 0 instead of 1 then all of the people who won, might not have if the system was correct. And same for the people who lost out. Meaning lots of people have houses they shouldn\\'t have, and lots of people who shouldve won didnt. If their solution to this is "i am very sorry" and 3 days play time (worthless) then idk what to say...

Housing is the most optional content in the game, and a player saying they want to take part in it is essentially saying "here\\'s a sub forever, just for immersion/rp etc". But the company is like "haha no." Its the only system in the game that actively punishes you for trying to engage with it.

I wasted days and days of my life spamming placards.
Now I\\'m forced to sit and wait onna lottery draw that might or might not happen, and even if it does the results are skewed and the system is broken/flawed. Real nice. About what I\\'d expect from endwalker so far

THE SUMMER IS MAGIC

There's 2 easy ways they may have done the lottery results. Let's say X is the number of entries.

1. Roll a random number from 0 to X-1, then add 1 to the result to get the winning entry
2. Roll a random number from 1 to X. The result is the winning entry

The first is based on an index of 0 (how most programming languages like to count), and the second an index of 1 (how we like to count).

Each one has its own unique way to screw up like it did today.

1. They forgot to add the 1 back in, meaning the last entry is entirely omitted and an empty 0 entry is added
2. They forgot to change the index to start at 1, so they picked a random number from 0 to X instead. All entries may still be selected, but there's also an empty 0 entry included

If it's the first case, then technically if entry Y won then it was really Y+1 that won. But I don't think it's fair to, say, take the house away from Y and give it to Y+1. They had an equal chance of winning, and there's no significant meaning to their position in the entry array because the result is random. The only entry that's really screwed is the last one because they weren't even included in the drawing, and you could potentially resolve that by giving the house to them if it rolled a 0.

If it's the second case (which seems more likely as I'm sure someone with the last entry has won a house) then all the entries are still in the same position in the array. They all had the same chance to win, and the winner won it fair and square. You only had one extra empty entry 0, which had a 1 / X+1 chance of winning same as everyone else. If 0 did win in this case, then the best option would probably be to simply re-run the lottery with the same participants.

Or, maybe they're doing something really weird with this lottery and neither of these scenarios fits. Regardless it seems like the best thing to do is to let winners stay winners, and re-run the lottery for any plots which sold to "0".

Yeah I got that "winner 0" garbage yesterday so I claimed my money back before coming on the forum (I'm sure Im not the only one) so it looks like Im out of the running for getting a house in ishgard.

They should do a reroll for all the entries in a house that came up with 0. If that means giving a house to someone who already took a refund, then so be it. It's SE's mistake, not the players'.

I'm the same. I assumed I hadn't won, saw "0 is the winner", claimed my money back, and I remained in the participant pool. I'm not expecting the resolution to be pleasing to all parties so I'm just not engaging with housing in the future. Seems like a waste of time.

EXAMPLE WITH EASY NUMBERS:

4 (N) people betting -> 25% each to win and 75% to lose
4+SE (= number zero, N+1) -> 20% each to win and 80% to lose

So no, who won had smaller chance to win and they won anyway, who won overcame even the bugs <.<

Case 1 is wrong for sure, because I know of players winning with a single bid on the plot.

I cant think of a way to fix this that would please everyone.

So some people lost out because their ticket wasnt counted hence the "winner 0" issue. Does that mean they could just run a lottery again on those plots if thats possible? Not really as it could mean there might be more (or possibly less) competition this time around for those plots. How about the players who were lucky enough not to get screwed over, do they get to keep the house knowing theres an issue where many entrants werent counted so theres no way people can have any confidence the house was won legitimately.

100 people put a ticket in for a house so you've got a 1 in 100 chance of winning, well what if 90 of those tickets werent even counted (like all the people who got the winner 0 bug), now thats a 1 in 10 chance of getting the house and the rest had absolutely no chance in hell since theres didnt even count.

Consumer confidence in this game has taken a few bad knocks lately.

No reason to punish the winning players for something not their fault. People who lost didn't have the house and still don't have a house, they can still try for another house. The people competing for my FC house had the same chances as me at winning, people grasping at straws trying to justify taking the houses away from people is laughable.
