Personal Housing Constructive Feedback
This morning's lottery result felt like anti-Christmas to me. Months of anticipation for owning a personal house in Ishgard, for naught. Message received, the developers want housing wards primarily for free companies. Despite the "0" error, it's likely most FCs will get the upgrade they desire. Players that desired personal homes were definitely not a priority for the developers.
So, let's try to change the direction of the conversation. I've read numerous players suggesting luxury apartments, but that's thinking too small. Why bother instancing a mere interior, when you can instance a personal yard to decorate along with the interior? Yes, I'm advocating for instanced housing. It appears that it will be the only long term viable solution for the player housing crisis.
Despite the release of a new housing district, only 360 new homes were released for personal use. For players like me hoping to upgrade to a Medium? There was roughly 10-15 times the demand then supply. I don't foresee SE ever releasing the number of wards to meet demand, or deciding to issue wards with fewer cottages and more houses and mansions. Instanced housing solves this. Additionally, instanced housing solves two more problems. If SE is worried about lots going unsold and looking unseemly? Instances can be as private as the developers desire. Secondly, instanced housing not only scales with the number of players, but then SE would no longer have to worry about having to destroy the houses of players who fail to utilize them often enough.
For a social aspect, place a market board near any entrance to instanced personal housing. That would be a big step up from my current ward, where the only residents I've seen in the past few months just moved their FC house to Ishgard.
In short, personal housing was a major selling point in getting me to try FFXIV. Sadly, it appears to receive tepid at best support from the developers. Perhaps if we can focus on basic demands for personal housing (FC apartments and personal apartments are not sufficient) we can all experience housing to our expectation.
