The fate of the scions.... (SPOILER 6.0/6.1)

I wasn't happy to party with only half of the scions. I saw some threads and it seems the majority of people are tired and want new, original characters. Meanwhile I am still so attached to them that I would probably lose my interest on the story if they're gone.

It's just me?

I'd rather see some new faces with deeper personalities and backstories instead of the game being warped into a glorified visual novel focusing on a handful of comfort characters.

I just overall don't like the Scions anymore. It has been the same crew for years and years. They're very samey: overly polite scholarly academics who like to lecture my head off about fantasy metaphysics that the writers make up and retcon as they go along, with the same heritage in the same country, and most of them are elves. And individually, most of them aren't interesting. Alphinaud was okay during ARR and Heavensward, but then he started becoming grating, and now he has to compete with the catboy for the role as the WoL's nerdy best friend deuteragonist. The competent Exarch devolved into a nerdby catboy who forced his way into my life way too late and does not act his age. Lyse and Alisaie competed for the same role as the brash tomboy. Urianger was dull as a doorknob until ShB reinvented him as a cool uncle. Y'shtola was possibly the most dull of them all, standing around and picking on people and being Ms. exposition. Thancred is okay.

I wish half of them had been killed off during ShB and Endwalker and the other half legit retired and went their separate ways, and that 6.1 began introducing a completely brand new cast of original characters.

Was actually very disappointed that they made a big deal out of going our separate ways at the end of EW and then frame 1 of the next patch we're already getting the band back together.

Can have them appear again and help out but was really looking forward to something actually new. This patch feels as much of a continuation as every other post-story patch cycle has honestly when it was supposed to be 'the end of an era' or what have you.

Nope. I like the Scions to. We're best buds. I miss the hell out of Lyse though, I wish they would get her in at least one of our adventures.

I wouldn't take General Discussion too seriously. People are just working through some personal frustrations, just give them your sympathy and move on.

The main goal is probably to expand out the main cast of characters, which is best done by running parallel storylines to develop newer characters in a smaller group setting first. FF6 did this early on, and by the time the scenarios converged the cast had doubled in size. It can be harder to develop a new character in a large established group of friends.

Nah I still like all of them. I was happy to spend some time with Shtola for this questline, after kinda forgetting she existed for the main EW plot

all of them I hate especially Ystola, if your going to die and die again, stay dead for damn sake and then she like is always coy like.. so annoying

she's not bad ass as she think she is

While I can understand the perspective of a new player who may have started recently being quite attached to Scions, you must understand that these characters have been here for a *decade.* As someone who has started in ARR, I am begging for a new cast because the development of the Scions happens at too slow of a pace nor does anything of interest happen to them.

They cannot carry us into season 2, they only represent stagnation at this point. We cannot have immortal characters that stay on this long like WoW does, I'm sorry but it is for the best that they retire from the storyline. I do not have the confidence in the writers to do anything more with the likes of characters like G'raha Tia besides more meme or college living moments.

The writing direction of late has been questionable on many fronts-but I'll address those grievances somewhere else once I finish the entirety of this patch's story content.

Apologies, but it seems that the budget allocation for this instead went towards animating more G'raha Tia facial and tail expressions and cutting the ears off Hrothgars in order to accommodate their new wigs.

Personally tired of them and the direction they are going in, but overall there are plenty on social media who love them and also want more.

Kind of miss the quaint days of Yda/Papalimes. I wonder how he would react to some of these story developments...
