Something I learned from 6.1 SAM

As I got to take SAM into savage and the new dungeon I noticed something. And the most discomfort I had with the job wasn't the kaiten or crits. (That's a whole different beast for a different thread) It was all the aoes being circle and not a mix of cones and circles. I don't mind being able to sit in one place spamming all of them all over the place but I noticed it gets real annoying with all the circle aoes around enemies. It makes me wonder if they should have taken it in the direction of all cones? At least for a dps. Tanks at least don't melt when they get hit and can mitigate. Just a thing that'll only affect dungeons but was wondering what others thought.

Person who was in charge of SAM changes threw a dart on board and it landed in "Change aoe ability from cone to circular to make it look like we care about class" tile. That's the only way i can explain this to myself why SAM now has 1 line, 2 cone (they probably forgot about them) and a bunch of circular aoes ....

My friend kept saying how bad Tenka Goken felt it would be so much better as a circular AoE....
but then again she doesn't Main SAM like I do...

The problem I have is that it dumbs down how our class AoE's. I loved being forced to move in and out of the pack to get the most out of my kit. Where I had to put in effort to melt the mobs. And when danger AoE's were thronw my way, I had means to throw my cone AoE aimed towards the pack of the mobs directed out of harms way. It felt exciting and fun. Something to look forward to when I go into a Dungeon.

Now I just stand still... i have to be centered around the mobs and everything is circular it's boring, its not skill expressive it has no depth, the animation is poor like it's lazy... and then the damage well I don't care for it as much as the feel for it but it doesn't auto Crit while also not requiring to Kaiten as a bonus to make it extra boring it's not satisfying


PS: This is actually the extra reason why I don't go into Expert Roulette / Leveling Roulette / or even Fates, I don't feel like wanting to cast this skill so I don't feel like doing any of these activities... this change thus utterly ruined it for me

I prefer varying AOE templates over all of either, but if I had to choose between all circles or all cones, I'd go with all circles. All cone AOE is interesting idea and has merit - we just have a difference of preferences.

I enjoy having to dodge all the AOE that enemies do while still trying to be as greedy as possible with my own positioning and I'd find it boring if I could just sit in one place spamming all of them from relative safety.

Again, I think your idea warrants consideration and may appeal to a lot of people, but my personal preferences would be for my AOE templates to vary (to incentivize movement), and if not that, then be circle AOEs to force me into more dangerous positioning (again to incentivize movement).

Can attest, the change to circle has resulted in me nearly getting melted in trash mobs. I want Tenka Goken to be strong and to be a cone for those. I'm personally not offended by the aoe combo actions, that's a whatever point. But Tenka Goken--one of our big hitting iaijutsu skills does roughly equal to any singular combo action we have and that is pathetic.

Fix SAM please.

I would like the cone back, as circle aoe is very DANGEROUS when CASTING.
IIRC they even upped the range on tenka goken in an early endwalker patch ;=; it was so safe...
While I get they might have done it because now you don't NEED A TARGET, but they introduced the QOL for targeted skills to automatically select a target upon attempting to cast them (ideal for aoe spam), via a toggleable option this patch no less.
And yes I like casting on samurai, when it's not a circle aoe.
