Samurai changes are terrible

They could have removed Hagakure or even Meditate to reduce buttons, neither are on my hotbar anyway. Having no Kaiten feels weird, and I have to press Shinten to spend Kenki too often. Also, Tenka Goken was just fine as a cone. Guaranteed Crits are cool, but all the nerfs are unnecessary.
I really hope they revert these horrible changes. I've been a Samurai main ever since getting my first job to lvl 50 and unlocking it way back in ARR, if my main job that I enjoy the most isnt fun anymore then there's no reason to play : (

Side rant, if new players think the game is too hard then the answer is make the content easier, not make the jobs simpler. The sense of achievement we get from learning to be good at our chosen job loses its value when all the jobs are so simple they all feel the same.

Agree but hagakure and meditate are necessary QOL buttons

I'm all with you but without Hagakure we can't even do our rotation properly or you'll have to make sacrifice with yaten+enpi resulting in a loss of potency. You can't get rid of it and they shoud have never taken it from us at ShB.

If new players think the game is too hard, they should probably be playing something else because the only real challenge that exists anymore is current Savage/EX/Ultimate. Most of the game can be cleared by turning your brain off and spamming 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 on the majority of classes. Even at that, the game could make one hell of a better effort of incentivisng players to learn and improve for themselves by updating outdated features like Hall of the Novice. A revamped HotN with individual job tutorials teaching about unique job mechanics such as teaching new healers what an Esuna is or when to use Rescue, teaching tanks how to properly manage their CDs and not overlap, teaching DPS how their rotations work along with how their gauge interacts with it... But instead what we've got is a lacklustre introduction into group content that nobody touches. If the game isn't going to give new players the tools and advice they need to improve, the devs and the playerbase can't sit there with surprisedpikachu faces when new players don't improve.

I do agree with all your SAM points though. It's not even like it was a hard class to pick up or difficult to master once you'd gotten the hang of it but now it just feels so boring and unsatisfying. Wouldn't have thought the removal of one ability would have such a knock-on effect to the rest of the class but thanks to these 6.1 changes, I'm dropping the class until it changes. Truthfully I'm considering cancelling my sub for a while as well because I'm logging in less and less these days due to general dissatisfaction with the game which has just hit a new low. Obviously nobody's going to care that a select few are thinking of cancelling their subs because it comes across as melodramatic cope, but that's literally where I'm at right now and it feels shit considering how much love I've had for this game over the years.

I didn't expect to hate this change as much as I do. Literally made a forum account just to contribute to the voices speaking out against it. Removing Kaiten has completely ruined both the feel and flow of the job. Please revert the change as soon as possible. Literally nobody asked for this.

I feel a lot of players are like us. Where as I had faith in the dev team for balancing jobs, that has completely eroded with this most recent patch. My activity on the forums since the 6.1 changes were announced has only made me more aware of the ignorant direction the dev team has in their handling of jobs. It seems these updates are only damaging the good faith they have built with the community.

I completely agree with you, removing Kaiten has done far more damage to the kit than good.

I find the constant 'need to teach' comments a bit puzzling, given that there are no other MMORPGs that I've played that actually teach more than the basics that are currently taught in Hall of the Novice. Most don't even go that far. At best, one gets an introduction to the class 'system', not the class itself.

New players are actually taught the things mentioned above by mentors. I've encountered many such mentors over the years, from the Shaman in WoW who explained to two novice hunters how to use their CC abilities to best advantage to the actual mentors in this game who have an entire channel devoted to explaining things to novices, as well as a chance on a daily basis to explain things in actual instances to those same novices, to that dedicated portion of the population who create videos and web articles about those same things.

One cannot rely on the forums to do such things, however, because here there is only (a) complaint about those people who haven't learned mechanics or play style and, oddly enough, (b) the rare forum posting on how to play a class ... for which I've only encountered useful information on the one dealing with Dragoons.

'How to play [your class]' videos go straight to end game, which is a bit weird, considering that current end game is now 4 expansions away from ARR. The unfortunate problem with ARR+4 expansions is that there are also plenty of videos out there that are obsolete after 6-8 years of gameplay.

If anyone who reads this thinks that "training" should be mandatory, please help by putting together a video about the things you think that training should include. It's not so much that I think traning should be mandatory, but if there's a push to simplify and make the game easier for people who refuse to learn then what they should probably be doing is hand-holding the players who are struggling so that the players who aren't don't suffer for it. One thing I will say about mentors though is that our Burger King crowns are a meme for a reason. Becoming a mentor doesn't really require an awful lot of skill or knowledge about the game, and it seems like the vast majority of mentors - at least on my server/datacenter - only signed up so they can use NN as a general chat and have little to no interest in helping new players. Not that this is particularly bad because as a mentor, I've noticed that a lot of new players have little to no interest in listening to mentors. So now we're got a dynamic where the new players aren't learning, aren't taking steps to learn and the people who are responsible for teaching them are sick of wasting their time, so it seems to me like the best way of breaking the dynamic is the game grabbing new players by the scruff of the neck and dragging them kicking and screaming into a tutorial.

It would certainly be convenient for experienced players, but no other MMORPG I've ever played does such a thing, not even the mighty World of Warcraft. People still survived in those other MMOs, perhaps with the same sorts of complaints that people have here.

Such a tutorial might well seem satisfying in the short run. The downside is that you will get players who cannot innovate because the game taught them the One True Way to play their class in a tutorial. (Imagine learning, for example, how to play Black Mage 'properly' from an in-game tutorial at level 50. At level 60 you now need another in-game tutorial, because the play style changes dramatically). You will also get players who have played MMOs before and resent being dragged kicking and screaming into a tutorial.

It all sounds so easy. The easiest thing is to become a mentor yourself. You don't need a crown above your name to be a mentor nor a chat channel. Just a willingness to explain things when asked. A willingness to contribute to your FC's "tips on how to play this game" document (you have one, right?) or to create a video that doesn't focus on a job at end game or write a web article on leveling a job.
