So far I am loving Endwalker way more than Shadowbringers (SPOILERS UP TO A POINT)

I HAVE NOT GONE PAST THE BROKEN GLASS CAMP ARC. NO SPOILERS ALLOWED BEYOND THAT POINT. EVER. THANK YOU

So far there's no time travel, no metaphysics, no world-hopping, nothing. This is like a breath of fresh air! The story is actually comprehensible! Joy of joys! Blonde Sephiroth is back, and there is a clear, defined enemy along with a clear, defined path toward said enemy. Urianger's presence is so diminished thus far that I can't help but cry tears of unbridled euphoria! There is no malarkey revolving out-body-experiences, no tripe surrounding Minfilia and her 18 lives (twice the amount of Y'shtola I might add considering she's the author's pet) and no WoL talking to some weird ghost of Marauder past/present/future.

However, I fear there is one massive plot hole that has besmirched whatever shred of respect I had left for the writers. It concerns the radios found in Empire Land™. Y'shtola explained that the reason the survivors we just stumbled across were immune to the tempering was because the radios were made out of the same material as the talismans we acquired from Elephant Lady.

I'm sorry, what?

This makes absolutely zero sense. The Talismans were constructed out of dragon scales. So unless I'm missing something here Square-Enix was just super lazy in concocting up this egregiously convenient contrivance. Can someone correct me? Please? I kind of want to be wrong in this case. Because this is ridiculous.

I remember the story actually explaining (or heavily implying) what those radios truly are but I'll adhere to your thread rules of no spoilers so I wont say anything till you finish the entire Garlemald section.

also with Theodoric's statement, you'll be in quite a surprise indeed. General consensus within the FFXIV community is that Endwalker's story is worse than Stormblood.

No wait even worse than ARRs.



No wait actually scratch that, World of Warcraft's Shadowlands was much better written that the pile of garbage that is Endwalker.

I won't give anything away, but there is a little more to the radios and how they prevent tempering. Stay tuned (no pun intended)

It's not wise to visit the forums, or any discussion area relating to the game for that matter, until you've done the story. When I do the story, I avoid youtube, twitter and discord and look at the event tab so I can't see anyone's spoilers.

On the forums our discussions frequently involve spoilers, so I would recommend just finishing the story first.

Oh, are you in for a treat...(cue evil laugh)...

As others have said, the reason for the tempering protection the radios have is explained later on (also SE will be adding them as furnishings in the future, Home Beyond the Horizon and all). Either way, keep playing... you're not even anywhere near the middle of the expansion yet. There is a long, long, loooooooooooonnnnnnngggggg way to go yet. ;)
