Gladiator class quest 'The Rematch', overtuned enemy

Steps:
1. Start the duty and clear the lower part of the bridge of all enemies
2. Reach the bridge to help out Mylla Swordsong
3. Engage the enemies there. In my case, I targeted Temperance of the Alacran
4. Since the target was being healed more than I could damage it, I started looking for the enemy healer. I had Iron Will enabled, so I drew enmity from the Temperance of the Alacran.
5. By the time I found the enemy healer, I noticed my health had dropped significantly, more than it should have. Before I could figure out why, I was defeated. To the best of my knowledge, I was only engaged with Temperance of the Alacran and Gotwin Halehex at that time.
6. I scrolled through the combat log, here are the entries of me taking damage:

• The Temperance of the Alacran hits you for 74 damage.
• Blocked! The Temperance of the Alacran hits you for 62 (-16%) damage.
•  You take 108 damage.
• Blocked! The Temperance of the Alacran hits you for 55 (-16%) damage.
•  Critical! You take 240 (+60%) damage.
• Blocked! The Temperance of the Alacran hits you for 55 (-16%) damage.
•  Critical! You take 128 damage.
•  Critical! You take 143 damage.
•  You take 224 (+75%) damage.
• You are defeated by the Temperance of the Alacran.

Total: 1089 damage received
My health pool: 992 health

7. I was not seeing any telegraphed attacks on the ground, so to my knowledge I was not hit by any.
8. To my knowledge, the enemy mage with its reinforcements had not yet spawned.
9. I'm an experienced player in the game and have never experienced being overwhelmed like this before. My best guess is that this particular enemy NPC can use powerful buffs that can easily overpower the player.

It's unlikely the stat squish affected this because it only applied to content above item level 50 and would not have much impact until level 60 content.

Looking at a guide from 2013, it looks like this has been how it is for as long as the game has been here. The guide recommends taking out the two conjurers and two melee where you start, then the archers on the stairs, then the black mages at the top, then Gotwin Halehex who is doing the healing, then Gigirya the Guarded (you can interrupt Void Call with your stun), then all of the remaining enemies and then The Temperance last. It says that if you don't do it in this order you might take too much damage.
