Some of the raids in FFXIV are so poorly designed. Wish they would change them.

I've been doing the Asphodelos raids with my static and it baffles me how poorly designed The Third Circle is. Most of the mechanics are okay, but Heat of Condemnation is just so awful. So awful. Mind you, I don't raid as a tank, I'm doing these raids on SMN, and I'm just tired of how the tethers work in this fight. Every mechanic in P3S is quite challenging, which I love. I love having a challenge in this game, that's why I do Savage raiding.

If you have never done The Third Circle before, the way Heat of Condemnation works is that two tethers are placed upon random members who aren't Tanks. Both Tanks have to take the tethers, and everyone has to stay still. What makes it poorly designed is that tanks can steal each other's tethers.

We had a run where the tanks took their tethers, but our PLD moved ever so slightly closer to our WAR and takes the WAR's tether, causing their tether to move onto a random DPS and wipe the party. Everything else in the fight is fairly and reasonably challenging, like the add phase and stuff like Firestorms of Asphodelos. The tethers being able to be stolen by both tanks from each other makes no challenge, it makes the fight annoying.

I don't know if everyone else who has been progging or has cleared this fight share the same sentiments as I do, but for me P3S has been the most annoying fight this tier.

The general rule of tether passing mechanics is that everyone who does not want a tether should never be within the boss' hitbox and be stacked at a fair distance so the people who want the tether(s) can grab them easily.

They are janky but once you understand how they work they're not that terrible.

The actual problem I have with the fight is how bloody orange everything is. They really need to change the arena's color to something darker for visibility's sake.

What likely happened is they took the tanks tether before they got theirs. That's happened to my group a few times.

If both tanks have tethers, it doesn't matter if they cross, you can't pick up a tether when you have one already.

The raids are well designed, but I agree with you on the tethers. The tethers made me not like the fight's design, because while most mechanics I can learn and do consistently, that mechanic means that sometimes, it will go wrong and the main tank will pickup an off-tank tether or vice versa.

In practice this problem does not happen very much and the easiest way for the main tank to grab the tether is to run slightly behind the boss then back in front. If the off-tank waits for that to happen before moving from south, it will mean that the off-tank will pickup whichever tether remains.

you cant take a tether if you already have a tether, so something else happened.

you should have your group stack behind the boss, have your OT stand in front of the group. wait for the MT to grab theirs, then the last tether should land on the OT since they're in front. OT moves to their spot and bam, all done. everyone stands still for like 5 seconds max, its not a big deal

Haven't had problems with tether mechanics. Prepare for tether with melee stacking and holding still outside the hitbox.

There is a problem with raid design IE: colors. There's no reason for one fight to be red on red on red on red, and then have red to match the red aoe markers. Makes my eyes strain.
