Potential Updates and Changes to Triple Triad
I'm a big lover of Triple Triad in the many forms it has taken in the Final Fantasy franchise and recently decided to try to collect as many Triple Triad cards as I could in FFXIV. While it has been lots of fun tracking down NPCs, participating in battles and slowly building up my collection and making fun new decks, there are some small complaints I have that could make the arduous journey of collecting the hundreds of cards in the game just a little bit easier. Now don't get me wrong, I love XIV's take on Triple Triad and the game has a solid and simple system that is quick and easy to play, but there are some small tweaks that could make the game that much more fun for everyone. The first change I would like to see made is adding a forfeit button to the game, at least against the NPCs. While it is a rare circumstance, I have run into a few situations where despite my best efforts it is impossible for my deck to claim victory after a few turns. It would be nice if instead of having to play the rest of the game I've lost out, I could just have an option to forfeit instead. Having a forfeit button to use while grinding out the rarer cards from tough NPCs would make the grind quicker and less strenuous. Another change I would like to see made is to the ruleset of "Swap". In both tournaments against other players and against NPCs, there have been many cases I have personally seen where swapping a 5 star card for a 1 star card can almost certainly guarantee a victory for one player and a defeat for the other. Losing one of the only cards in your deck that has an ace or 9 can be devastating, especially against NPCs with stronger decks or a veteran Triple Triad player. To remedy this, it would be nice if the ruleset could be changed to only swap cards of matching or close rarity. For instance, only 1, 2 and 3 star rarity cards can swap with each other while only 4 or 5 star rarity cards can swap with each other. The final change I would propose would be to make the chance of obtaining cards from NPCs only available to play at certain times higher. It is very hard to track some of these exclusive NPCs down, and even if you do find them there is no guarantee you will collect the card you want from them within the time they are available. Raising the collection rate for these specific NPCs would help a lot of collectors get the cards they need without needing to wait too long for them to become active again. I know it may be weird to ask for Triple Triad changes of all things, and I am sure triple triad changes are low on the developer's list of priorities but that is fine. These are just some small changes that would make the fun of collecting Triple Triad cards more enjoyable and easier, and it would be nice if the developers would consider making them at some point no matter how distant in the future these changes might be.
