For the past 5 days, my chat has been filled with nothing but smacktalk

Is this normal?
This is my first savage tier release, never been to one on patch day.
For the past 5 days all my CWLS, discords, FC chat and other private communities I'm part of have been filled with the following
1. "Damn PF is bad" but much more explicit language
2. "lol the RDM has spent the most time dead"
3. randomly someone say "THIS [insert job acronym] WTF" during all times of the day
4. links to fflogs profiles of various people they meet in party finder and logs they parsed.

Is this normal for the FFXIV community? I have never seen such sociopathic behavior from any other online community, the amount of vitriol spouted in private channels is beyond reasonable.

it culminated with me joining a voice chat channel on discord and hearing them talking in the most toxic manner to our 8th party member who joined via party finder, blaming him for everything, scrutinizing every single move, linking to his fflogs profile, shaming him for job choice, race choice, gender choice etc...

As a RDM I do spend most of my time on the floor

But I think new expansion brings out the worst in people after months of boredom or time away

You need to go find better communities. Maybe don't use The Balance as a Discord server reference. lol

Sounds like really insecure people with a small pee pee to me.
Better to just leave.

You cant throw an entire community into your example.
Of course this is normal for some people....in ever single community/ social media/ game in existence.

Our community is filled with a wide variety of people with vastly different personalities.
Some you will like others you will not.

Just like anywhere I think.

What you're experiencing is uncommon.. I have a total play time of 900+ hours and it's incredibly rare I ever came across anyone like that. Unpleasant people are unavoidable in MMO's but the blacklist button is there for your own comfort - don't feel bad for using it. You're just having one of those very weird weeks, it'll pass, just don't think too much into it.

I'm going to say what the girlies will hate, but is absolutely the truth that for some reason they prefer to pretend isnt real.
Yes, that is absolutely normal for the FFXIV community at large. Yes it is. Don't fight me-yes it is.
I have all types of friends. Casual, "hardcore" Savage raiders, Crafters, Housing, RP I've befriended every type of XIV player there is. and the majority of them do this.
I'm sorry to my friendslist, I love you all to death so if any of you see this please forgive me, but it's the cringiest thing I swear I swear I've ever seen in my entire online life. My entire body turns into a lemon lick reaction-just scrunches in on itself every time I have to see or hear some long drawn out tirade on why person XYZ just ruined their entire day all because they forgot to use skills ABC in the correct order or because they missed or mechanic or died.

I completely understand people getting angry in Savages, right. I think people that are good should play with others that are good.
But where it gets beyond annoying to hear about is when they knowingly join a pf or a roulette and then proceed to whine for that entire run about how that person is underperforming. "OH im so great I CANT believe this person isnt doing what I would do MEMEME-" Oh my god, I always have to mute my ears in vc when that starts. Switch chat tabs or even just mute the cwls if it happens all the time. I'm sorry. It's just annoying. It's endless complaining. It'll never be hot, it'll never be cute. but it happens all the time. I can't say why. I guess people are just overall really entitled and generally see themselves as the main character in every situation surrounded by idiots never once stopping to consider that maybe perhaps they arent actually all that much better themselves. Because again..it's one thing if you're making a pf and setting the bar rules. but if you join a random pug and then start crying a river..anyway. So to answer your question; yes that's normal. No matter what time of the year, no matter what patch or how much new content. People learn how to a shadow hand animal trick and immediately whip around and act aghast that the rest of the world hasnt mastered it too, as if they themselves didnt only learn it 5 minutes ago. Just mute them for a bit when they start doing it.

Smack talk them back.

Destroy them.

Crush your enemies and see them driven before you, and bask in the lamentation of their loved ones.

Almost sounds like the communities you chose to be a part of more than the game. I haven't seen any of that in my static or FC. But then, I'm also not in a bunch of random LS or discords so...
