Why is everyone so silent in the game?

I know there *are* people out there that talk, but it seems so rare. Are people just shy of talking? Is it a cross-console thing so they can't do it effectively without it taking minutes at a time? Or is this another one of those things that discord effects?

It just doesn't seem alive, even in populated areas where the ambient chatter implies that there's a lot of talking and a cacophony of voices tries to add to what would be the discussions of other players.

What's the reason behind the lack of social interactions?

I think it's a cultural thing. People talk all the time in the data center I'm currently on, even in short dungeon jaunts and palace of the dead runs where we'll probably never see each other again after five minutes. But on my old data center, the only time people ever spoke in content was to insult one another for not performing well enough or messing up mechanics.

A lot of console players may not have a keyboard connected, and using the controller to talk is awkward and time-consuming.

But I suspect that most of it is because MMO chat channels in general are kind of infamous for being a cesspit. Combined with some people who will gleefully throw reports around at the slightest hint of something that could kinda vaguely be considered almost offensive, and a lot of us just can't be bothered to talk much with strangers.

Also, a lot of us are introverts and just don't talk much in the first place.

Don't know. I'm pretty much a constant spillage of words. People tend to respond. Just need some encouragement! I've been having a lot of fun in the Endwalker dungeons with randoms and such.

I think another thing is Discord. A lot of "gamers" I know use Discord and/or Voice Chat via Discord for all their communication.

Like people said, you've got a lot of Console players that don't have access to a keyboard. Probably also have a lot of people with social anxiety. More than likely, another group entirely that is now afraid of getting wacked by the harassment part of the ToS and afraid to speak up or offer advice even in a well meaning way.

Then you have idiots like me, who the moment he sees the opening Praetorium cutscene, starts filling party chat with "Take me down to the cutscene city where the dialogues long and the NPC's cringy!" and proceeds to BS with everyone in party chat after breaking the ice and having a fun run, in what is otherwise a snoozefest.

I just don't wanna talk to anyone.

Not talkining is fine. I dont like anyone so I dont chat but whats worse is the people who make macros to say hello. Your better off not saying anything.

One of this games dirty little secrets...

It has a lot of people who are very easily offended and will report people for anything that offends them. Many just don't want to risk getting reported. And the GMs tend to side with the reporter no matter how asinine the report was.
