Suggestion: Option for quick aethernet usage

First off, I want to say that I mostly like the new aethernet UI in towns. It's very helpful for places you're less familiar with or with quests that ask you to go to X which isn't directly a destination, but you can see from the map that Y is close to the quest marker.

What bugs me, though, is when I'm in a familiar place and I know I'm going to some place (e.g. Weaver's Guild) which is well-known from the list of destinations, it's kind of jarring that now I have to click it twice rather than once like before. I get that previewing where a named destination might take me would be useful to some players or in some situations, but if you've been there a hundred times and you know you want to go there, don't bother showing me the map for it to confirm that, yes, I really do want to go there.

Interestingly, this isn't as bad on a controller setup since you can scroll up/down through the destination menu like before and the map happily updates the preview as you scroll causing you to immediately teleport when hitting the X button. I suppose the same could even be done on PC if hovering over a named destination updated the preview so that I could hover to preview the destination, and then simply click once to just go there.

This should probably just be a checkbox on the new UI to make it easy to discover and toggle since I could see myself potentially turning it off for a bit when taking a look at a new/unfamiliar town. On the other hand, I'd be fine if it just gets buried somewhere in character configuration to keep the shiny new UI from being cluttered. I just feel there's already so many wonderful options that many players don't know about buried there and I often end up pointing out some of them to newer players when they complain about something related to those options.

Mm, I'm the same, the new interface is annoying. I preferred to pick Grid's Leatherworker's guild from a list to get to the MBs, and the Aetheryte plaza to get back. For places I am not so sure on, a quick look at the map was fine.

Having it as an option, even a >> popout would be better for day to day use.

I totally agree it should be an option. As it is, the new system is actually worse if you know the name of the place you want to go.

On some case you may click directly on the displayed map to save a click, but that doesn't work for aethernets over 2 maps like the main cities.

I dislike the new navigation on controller. The way the map slides around makes me a little queasy (I'd rather it just popped from place to place, or an option to turn off the map altogether) and it has made some destinations require more button presses. For example, 90% of the time I warp to Limsa I want to go to the Aftcastle, which used to be the first aethernet option from the main plaza aetheryte, but now needs to be scrolled down several times.

Ah, I had forgotten that thought had crossed my mind, though I guess the animation didn't bug me while I was trying it on my PS4 since my eyes were focused on the text list. I could see it moving, of course, but I guess I'm thankfully not affected by it.

I suppose because of the huge change in the UI I didn't realize that the ordering of the destinations might have changed. I don't really play on PS4 much (I only do currently because of the sound issues on PC), so I have no muscle memory for things like like how far up/down on the list Aftcastle and such are as I'm used to simply moving the mouse to the destination I have in mind. I certainly see your point, though as I'm fairly sure Aftcastle is like 80% of my teleports in Limsa.

Eh, while bothersome, I've kinda already gotten used to the double clicking.

I'd kinda just as soon see this as a transition stage to just allowing us to teleport to city aetherytes from any position. Instead of having to go find your nearest aetheryte to use, just open map and pick where in the city you want to be.
