The Addition of Instances!?

Hello, so I logged in on this day and realized there are now instances in final fantasy. This is pretty cool, but I wish to warn that this is a thing now. I can not find anywhere this has been announced or patch notes, though it is possible I am just special and did not notice this was a thing until now >.<

If anyone realizes they logged out at the same table as friends and they are mysteriously not there when logging in at the same time do not worry. You are not stuck inside of an alternate universe just go to the Aetheryte and change your instance. Though I am unsure where to see what instance you are on currently when first logging in, but I am sure I will figure it out eventually.

I just wished to inform, if anyone else was confused or thinking silly things when logging. You have not lost your mind if you can not see the same people a friend is seeing in their world, and your friends are not ghosts in a forever loading for you type of loop.

Not all areas are instanced, just the ones that are usually heavily congested at the start of the expansion. They've done the same thing with previous expansions, they'll be gone at some point in the future.

This has been a thing since at least Stormblood, if not before. It was done to ease heavy traffic during high volume playtimes. You rarely see it because honestly most of these players buy the game, play it in a month or so then unsub for a chunk..so it’s mostly relevant during major patches/expac launches. Or people just filter into other things.


Btw, good chance to do some hunts, as the hunt targets can spawn in each instance.

Pretty sure the instancing has always been a thing, but only ever gets seen during times like expansion launches where there is such a high number of players.

FWIW, you can do /instance in the chat-box to see which instance you are currently in.

(As others have already mentioned, it wasn't in any patch notes because it's been a thing for ages when a zone would otherwise be unusable due to congestion; it's not a new feature. You are not wrong that it is, however, not a well-documented feature if you don't already know it's there.)

Thank you very much this helps a ton. I looked in all posts just to be sure, I think a November post did mention Endwalker zones being instanced, but had not encountered it until today in Mor Dhona.

This makes me a bit sad, I was secretly hoping this would be permanent, and also in towns but understand why it might not be able to be translated to main towns. Possibly to do with glamour dresser and how it is tied to the code. It most likely would cause havoc.

Aye! I am so taking advantage of this if I can, and sending out shouts and see if special fate bosses spawn in multiple locations. I know many people may still not have achievements, so this is the perfect time to set up party finders for those bosses if they spawn or someone catches them spawning

I am sad it will not be permanent like other mmos, but aye this definitely seems to be the case. I only began playing about a year ago, so since I have played it hasn't been busy enough for them to put instances back. Well or put them in the super busy locations. I think some areas they physically can not do this like the gold saucer events that caused so much lag no one would load in for years and teleporting around would happen.

They don't toss it in patch notes because as others have said, it's not a new feature. But they do inform us in the pre-release topics like this one so we know it'll be a thing again. Being a newer player, you just haven't experienced one of these congestion heads-up posts before is all.
