GTX 470 Unable to detect DirectX

So lately I've been getting weird artifacts once I boot FFXIV and sometimes when I load into the game itself. They will flash around the screen, and then the game will shut down.

I have the latest driver for my 470. I've checked my temperatures and they don't go above 50ish. Any suggestions on a fix?

I have the same issue but with a Radeon HD 6970. After scouring forums, dealing with tech support, uninstalling drivers, reinstalling drivers blah blah blah, there is no fix, wait until the patch comes out tomorrow and see if it fixed your issue. This is a common issue among newer gfx cards and Square-Enix is well aware of it.

Are you guys overclocking? If you are, you might want to pull back just a bit on that side. If not, try setting down your video config a little bit and see if the issue goes away. When I tweak up my video and overtax my GPU, I get the same thing you are describing. When I pull things back, a bit, everything works like a charm.

This is very common. When I spoke with various support folks, the central issue they noted was the cards designed to run on dx10+, yet stuck to running DX9, which FFXIV supports.

I would be extatic if they added dx10 or dx11 support for ffxiv 2.0

It's already been said that in 2.0 there will be dx11. i think it will be optional tho in config settings.

Also too, I have 460 1gb edition that I overclock and have never experienced any issues, at all. The issues skold is having have really nothing to do with what the OP is going through. AMD cards and Nvida cards are two seperate animals, and not only the achitecture is different, but also the driver structure. AMD cards do not play nice with XIV cuz the game was made to be optimized for nvidia cards.....look at the benchmark for example...huge Nvidia tag as soon as you launch it.

For OP: Do you have any issues with any other games? Have you tried a stress testing program like furmark to stress the gpu and see if it artifacts under load? You could also attempt to play around with slightly older drivers, incase there is a bug with your particiular model and your current driver. Hope this helps!

Really? Last i heard they only had it "under consideration".

^ Not under consideration and forgive me for being tired, so I'm not really trying to dig for the post. But it was indeed confirmed that the 2.0 graphics engine will be dx11 capable. but like i said before, it most def will be an optional setting under config.
