Authentication error during queue

This is more of a technical question than an issue I need resolved.

One of the methods going around to combat Error 2002 is to enter queue and login with a second client upto the point where you can select your character. This allows you to avoid the struggle of having to rush through the login process after 2002 closes your client, which can be a problem if you fail to connect to the lobby several times and risk losing your place in queue. However, having tried this method twice I noticed a new error message "An authentication error has occurred". Unfortunately, I didn't think to check the error code.

My question is, does the second client maintain an active session with the login servers even while it sits idle on character select? If so, then I would assume it's the cause of the authentication error.
