The Sound that started the Final Days...
Was it the "song of oblivion" all along or are we yet to know what it was?
Because that's the thing I was most hyped about learning in Endwalker and I'm still not sure and I can't deny it pisses me off.

Yea I think it was
The song of oblivion.
Also be aware Emet-Selch was speaking in metaphors in the Amourot dungeon. It was his interpretation of what was happening because...
Him and the Convocation did not understand Dynamis. Ascians couldn't even use or interact with dynamis, Hermes managed to create a being who could but because of Ascians not being able to use dynamis he messed up. Now the reason the Ascians are always shocked by our Limit Breaks makes way more sense.
Endwalker stuff
The people of Thavnair mentioned hearing a terrible noise before the sky turned red so it seems implied that you can only hear it once the effects hit a certain breaking point since the beasts were already showing up everywhere..
Im Kinda confused myself. Didn't they always say the sound where coming from inside the deepth of the Planet in Shadowbringers?
Yeah, same here.I discussed this in other thread (the ew lore megathread). I was hoping the whole thing to be a chthonic thing (the big evil dormant in the core of the world) instead of the interstellar thing it turned out to be. But that's a personal preference, I like the story, period.
You can hear the "song" during the Lv85 dungeon as apart of the ambient sound effects, it'sMeteoin's disembodied singing
Hmm right
But keep in mind
The last zone is how she ushered it with negative dynamis - we've seen it with the dragons, omnicrons, and (even herself) because of someone else's fatalistic lament/despair so WHO had such a deep despair that she was able to attune and make the magicks go wild? We could assume Hermes...but ...
It's explained in the MSQ.
In a scene with Meteion on Elpis, she says that she is able to communicate with us through emotion. It isn't audible sound nor telepathy, but her manipulating our emotions in a way we understand her.
When the song of oblivion happens, people literally 'feel' the cry from the planet in their emotions and it sounds like the earth is screaming.
