Stream Deck text commands issue on Mac

Running Mojave (10.14.6) on a 2019 Intel iMac. I'm trying to use my Stream Deck for game commands, and while hotkeys work fine, any attempt to send text to the chat interface sends a text-length string of a's instead (ex.: "/gs change 1" appears in the chatbox as "/aaaaaaaaaaa"). I have given both Stream Deck and FFXIV system privileges through Accessibility; no joy. If I hit the same button in a text editor or chat app like Discord, it sends the proper text.

This smells like a character set mismatch. I've heard speculation that the Mac version is actually the Windows app via WINE bottle, which might account for that, but it sounds a bit unlikely to me. Any ideas?
