Why are lofts still tabletop?

Hi all!

I'm quite a new player, been coming back and forth between WoW, but finally decided on XIV (quite pleased with it). I've been creating a lovely apartment, but the lofts still work as tabletops since their creation a couple of years ago while a lot of people have complained about it. It hinders creating a home quite a lot.

I know you can float stuff, but we all know it's time consuming and frankly, unnecessary. What's the reason behind this reluctance to change this simple housing trait?

Lofts are giant shelves, and shelves only take tabletop items. Furniture (outside of float tricks) goes on the floor.

Short of a full overhaul of the furniture system, I don't think they can change how that works. They just label more medium-sized furniture pieces as "tabletop" so you can place them on lofts.

I honestly expected they'd improve lofts by now but years later, here we are. The floating glitch isn't too hard to pull off but the main problem I've had that's thwarted things I've wanted to do is the minimum height different objects have to stop snapping back to the floor.

I don't know why they implemented lofts the way they did to begin with or why they don't give us some easier way to move things vertically.
