Good evening!
I’ve finally gotten around to exploring 1-50 optional quests and content, including non-MSQ and hard mode dungeons, and I’m absolutely loving this seemingly overlooked series of experiences, including the music! I own almost all the FFXIV soundtracks and yet I do not recognize the music in some of these dungeons, and so I have a general line of inquiry that I’d like to ask you folks!
How much of the instanced later game of ARR are things that were in 1.0? I ask because the only soundtrack I don’t own is the one from early FFXIV, pre-ARR, and I’m wondering if I have a bad memory of the many tracks I do own, or if some of these dungeons are throwbacks to 1.0?
… or did ARR really come complete with all these dungeon maps (MSQ and beyond) and music that were brand spanking new for 2.0? I often wonder how much of 1.0 still exists, indeed aren’t coils hailed as a 1.0 finale? Am I remembering that wrong?
Anyway, if the 1.0 soundtrack has some of these optional and hard mode dungeon themes, I might just complete my collection! I’m always looking for more D&D mood music, and FFXIV has some of the best!

However, 1.Xes music has been getting repurposed for a lot of stuff beyond ARR too. There are still some 1.X songs we don't have in game again yet (I think we're still missing a Thanalan theme) and every expac adds a few more back in.
No, basically none of the maps from 1.X were reused for ARR. Almost all of the music was brand new too.Quote:

Right, there's quite a few 1.0 OST tracks that haven't yet returned (not surprising considering most of 1.0's OST was the work of Nobuo Uematsu, Soken only really stepped into the shoes of main composer later on) - some examples of 1.0 track no-shows in ARR and later expansions are the original Piece of Mind (not the Heavensward track of the same name), The Seventh Gate, Widdershins (which is the Thanalan theme I think you're referring to ItMe), The Forest's Pulse, Aetherial Slumber, The Prelude ~ Rememberance, Freedom, Conflagration, Crowning Achievements, Honour and Duty, and both versions of the 1.0 Victory Fanfare.
And the original 1.0 city themes are available now on the Orchestrion, but not in the actual game itself oddly. -

Welp I just bought “before the fall,” because yeah, at least one of the tracks I had never heard of, from an optional dungeon, is in there!

Before the Fall is the ARR patch OST album (specifically, music from patches 2.2 - 2.55) - the 1.0 album is actually called Before Meteor, although there were smaller incomplete 1.0 albums released before then: FFXIV Field Tracks, FFXIV Battle Tracks, and Eorzean Frontiers, but only Before Meteor is pretty much the entire 1.0 OST.
From what I'm aware the only 1.0 tracks not included in Before Meteor was the original 1.0 opening movie theme, 'Dalamud Answers' which was the spooky a capella version of Answers that replaced all zone music in the lead up to the Calamity in game (that is different to the Rising event version in ARR that plays in Ul'dah every year), an alternate version of The Dark's Embrace that did not return in ARR that I understand was used in the last 1.0 MNK Job quest, and an early version of an ARR track called Brothers in Arms..
Everything else from 1.0's OST is on Before Meteor. -

Some of the ARR dungeons were in 1.0. Some of the game's music, including in Heavensward dungeons, is from 1.0. It's only reused if it fits somewhere.
