To Square: Personal Jukebox Plz

Probably not the only one that wants this.

But I really want a personal jukebox option for all the orchestration scrolls we collect rather than just a house or inn.

You know how cool it would be to kill monsters to the theme of Answers? To walk around Ishgard with dragonsong playing, to go to war with Revolutions?

We get all these orchestration rolls, but have to be somewhere and stand there all day just to hear them. (And my favorite place to go is Zenith to listen to Dragonsong on the tallest tower, and reflect for a few hours.)

If it doesn't fit IC, make it a magitek minion that plays a roll you choose. Or an aetheric MP3 player, it doesn't have to just be an option in settings. It can be creative.

Specifically, it's not possible due to how music and sound are coded in the game - the client uses two seperate sound 'channels' for music, a primary channel for the zone themes and BGM, and a secondary channel for 'event' themes like battle music and mount themes, and mutes the primary channel while it plays the secondary, and then switches back to the primary channel after the secondary channel finishes playing. It appears the Orchestrion uses this secondary channel, which makes sense why it's restricted to the Inn and personal/FC housing - there is naturally no need for battle music to run inside such dwellings, thus the secondary channel is free to use by the Orchestrion there.

Out in the field however, the constant requirement to keep switching back and forth between event themes and a hypothetical Orchestrion on the secondary channel would require too much processing on the client and the server, and so as a result SE have effectively ruled the possibility of an open-world Orchestrion out sadly.

Now I would love to have an open world Orchestrion too, but it's not possible - it's not 'spaghetti code' but just how the game was programmed at a basic level - the Orchestrion was added long after launch so the game was never coded to allow an Orchestrion in the first place and so they're having to use work arounds. It's the nature of the beast.
