So, I accidentally picked it up on my 80, but didn't want to as I don't have access to at least half of the stuff at 80 yet (only just levelled), so I discarded it, hoping I would be able get a new one as I then didn't have one, but can't get a new book. Is there a way to recover a discarded journal, or am I just screwed, lesson learned, until next week?

I often run these weekly with my FC; some advice we've learned:
- Assuming you are doing roulettes/main scenario, you should be getting a steady drip of points you can use to redo completed duties, allowing you to skip some of the harder stuff.
- You should have at least 4 things you can solo easy: Typically a dungeon you can solo (Any of the dungeons 60 and lower are cake for 80), and trial/primals from HW or ARR.
- Not all, but a lot of the Binding Coil/Alexander stuff can be solo'd as well, but these are more...troublesome than the above.
- Past that, yeah troublesome but easier is PvP, PotD/HoH and/or Treasure Map stuff.
Of course, as you already know, turn in the book for XP on another job.
