[CHN/WHM] 1h / shield and staffs.

Hey!

First of sorry if this is in the wrong section of the forum. I couldnt find any glamour section.

So now to my question and concern as someone who likes glamour very much.

How come at low level CHN/WHM can use 1h and shield combo, but at higher level you are restricted to wearing staffs only? I would think you should be able to choose which one you prefer to use.

If I had to guess, 1H + Shield for WHM/CNJ & THM/BLM were phased out to cut down on loot pool dilution.

It's a holdover from the 1.0 days where shield use was it's own unique sub-class called 'Sentinel' (or SEN for short), thus CNJ and THM could equip shields to gain class points towards this class (although only GLA could make use of SEN abilities). When Jobs were added SEN as a class was scrapped with it's abilties rolled into GLA/PLD and shield use became classless, but THM/BLM and CNJ/WHM continued to have some shields available to provide better defense.

By ARR SE wanted to move away from shield use on magic classes and so after level 50 single handed weapons on those classes all but disappeared. It's just another legacy of 1.0.

Okay well thats make sense. To bad tho as I always liked 1h / shield combo on ranged. Brought some nice glamour ideas.

it used to be a randomly viable option from time to time but back in the day shields and 1-handed weapons were separate drops from different sources so having different shields for various classes and various weapons all from different locations was a bit of a nightmare
their original solution was just "no more caster shields"
but then paladin still was left as the sole class that needed multiple drops to fill their weapon needs and later on they had the eureka moment of just make 1-handed gear drop in sets but the caster stuff was already gone by that point

a bit of a shame since one handed hammers is a final fantasy white mage thing all the way back to the original

The real downside is that we can't glamour the old one-handers over staves. Which also means the FF13 WHM and BLM one-handers from the Mog Station are pretty much useless.

The highest level 1 handed stuff they had was ilvl 95/ilvl 100 for the Levi EX stuff for Whm/Cnj, and then One handed weapon and shield for Blm for BiS back when ilvl 90/ilvl 95 weapons were the highest

After that they scrapped them. I'm assuming because they the Levi fight planned for 1.X, but they were falling way behind (Didn't release titan due to an earthquake that happened) among other things

I really liked the concept and wish there was more shield's and glamours and such for WHM/BLM.
They should bring them back I say!

1h wands rarely clips on my WHM glams. I’d very much prefer that over the current 2h canes.

This is one of my persistent complaints.


When you get into Bojah, you can use the one handed with shield again. Just 5 years of content with it being of little value.
