Server Capabilities

So when is SE actually going to invest in servers actually large enough to handle the basic off-season load let alone a coming into an expansion load that will be happening in November? Their servers have always been inefficient to handle the player load. if there is a queue to get in after logging into ANY game, then its clear their servers cant handle the minimum. Matter of fact this is the only game I've played where there was a queue to get into the actual game once logged in. Their system consists of undersized/unstable servers that require a queue to just get into the actual game because it is waiting to disconnect another player so the server has room to allow a player in queue to actually get into the game and play. There is no excuse for the necessary server changes to not have been done by now, its been YEARS! This is an across the board issue regardless of the diehard fanboys who refuse to admit to any laziness on SE part regarding this issue. Yes they have "stated" that they have looked into and done server stress tests, etc, etc as they have done in the past but at the end of the day nothing has truly been done to rectify said issue that the game has had since day one! If they got time to make an entire new expansion, they got time to correct age old issues that have been haunting this game for approaching a decade now! SE please take some legitimate action on this major issue!

No server is capable of handling an infinite number of connections (it's why websites crash when too many people try connecting to them), and why DDOS is such an easy way for hackers to take down computer systems and networks. Think of a server like a highway, if too many cars try entering it at once, there's going to be a traffic jam with no end in sight.

FFXIV is currently experiencing a perfect storm of the pandemic continuing to force people to stay indoors playing games like FFXIV (as well as working from home, putting extra stress on the internet in general), with FFXIV's current expansion regarded as the best yet attracting former players back, plus the upcoming new expansion also luring new and old players alike, and WoW's current issues causing people to abandon it for FFXIV, along with well-known WoW streamers trying FFXIV and thus attracting even more new players to the game. It's the price that has to be paid for the game's enormous popularity.

And, most importantly, SE are planning to upgrade the servers (by setting up a new data centre based on Australia/Oceania), however, again the pandemic has affected their ability to do this - the worldwide chip shortage (which is why the PS5 is in such short supply) and pandemic border closures and lockdowns in Australia and Japan mean SE has been unable to make much headway in this project, meaning it probably won't be til next year at the earliest the new data centre and servers come online.

Speaking as a Balmung player who has been playing since 1.0, I'm well aquainted with server queues and to me it's nothing unusual (where getting a 'this world is currently full ~ players in queue: xx' error on login is the norm rather than the exception). Maybe try having a bit of patience and understanding.

Thats the thing, Ive also been playing XIV since forever. And they've always had queues to get in. So you cant use excuses like a politicized and propagated wanabe pandemic, another mainstream games' player-base leaving to this ones' or an upcoming expansion or a very in the past microchip shortage (actually silicon shortage). The obvious issues have been going on since day ONE. You clearly overlooked that part, being the most important part! HONESTLY and REALISTICALLY what other TRUE MMO's do you know that you actively or have played personally in the past where once logged in you had to wait to actually play? (actual MMORPG) I can bet money right now the answer if you actually answer honestly is either zero or less than five! Yes the whole world gets FF is a popular and always has been a popular MMO and with that being said AND known, especially on SE part, they need to significantly bolster their servers. And DDOS attacks have absolutely nothing to do with servers being unstable or unable to facilitate the amount of people attempting to play at once. XIV isn't supporting any volume of player-base that hasn't been seen in any other widely popular MMO. So the issue and question still stands, when are they going to reinforce their servers so that they are able to support an "off-season" player-base let alone one with returning and new players during an upcoming expansion. It would be nice to see a response from a SE Developer instead of other players who spoon-feed excuses to SE. Before I got a reply to my post I knew I was going to get another player who would give obvious excuses, especially a year and a half, weak excuse such as covid. (people are still going to use covid for excuses even two to three years from now....watch!) Also the chip shortage was a thing of VERY, VERY early this year, sure it 's effects are still felt in the industry but it is far from some great catastrophe! Lets all stop with excuses, over-exaggerations, spoon-feeding and pandering and lets address these issues head on! But it is hard when you submit a ticket and the GM responds by telling you to post here in the forums then you get no response from an actual staff member here in the forums. Its great that they are planning on making additional servers for a couple other regions but you would have thought they would have done that from day one! So, SE when will you upgrade your servers to handle "off-season" times? Let alone full-bore times such as an upcoming expansion or other events?

which is why i wonder why are they letting new players join when the servers are so bad it makes no sense to me and it never will im experiencing major lag spikes that last 1-3ish secs and its messing up my skill usage and this will make "early access" A NIGHTMARE WHEN WE CANT EVEN PLAY. i fail to see the point in letting new people in until they get new or better servers because this is horse shit i want to get astrope before endwalker that way i dont have to do 80-200 MORE hours of work i honestly think that they should have held off on releasing endwalker until next year because thats when they said they are getting new servers square will forever suck most of the games they put out now are awful anyway the only modern SE game i play is this other then dragon quest 11 and that is technically a 1 time experience
