Housing Suggestion

Let me first say that the ability to see one's lawn decor and for those who have land plots to showcase their decorative abilities is great! However, it doesn't seem fair at all to those who purchased the game and also want land plots. I've thought about this and have come up with the perfect solution as I do not believe having a housing auction is the solution at all. I believe it will cause more chaos and upheaval than necessary.

I say this... just as you've made apartments instanced, so too should be a choice with land plots.

For instance, take the large housing plot. Allow the viewable plot to be purchased as first come first, served OR use that "curb appeal" plot as the auction property for that same $50mill. Then allow that same plot to have instanced versions that only visitors and owners are able to see the yard's decor. Mark down that price since it doesn't have that "curb appeal" status to $20 or $25mill.

That way every paying gamer has the luxury of a yard and basement workshop, if they so choose to. I feel it would be a win win for everyone.

Please leave comments, I would really love to hear everyone's thoughts. Would you agree or disagree with this suggested solution?

This system already exists in stupid games I don't want to mention names. A disgusting system that no one wants, -9 Pathetic suggestion.

You mean you don't want it. It's been suggested here many times by many players.

Players that have used the system in other games are generally very happy with it. Certainly I'd rather have it than the current system.

And it felt a bit aggressive, as if people finally being able to get a house would be the end of his exclusivity trip or something.

Like I said in another thread, both systems can co-exist. The problem with the ward system is that SE does nothing against shell FCs so no matter how many they add you’ll always have people trying to get advantage of this and own from a few houses to a whole ward.

I think everyone wants to "show off" their garden so I'm afraid that idea might not be enough since instancing won't allow others to see yours.

To be fair, doing something about shell FCs isn't going to solve the problem at all. There's still a relatively small percentage of total house owners that are shells.

The problem is and always will be that plot supply created through the ward system is too limited compared to the size of the player base that wants to own.

Not everyone wants to show off. It's not only shell FCs that have their houses locked to visitors.

I'm not into showing off myself, even though I've had my house since the 4.2 ward release. My house is open if someone passing by wants to take a look but outside of telling friends when I've redecorated yet again, I don't make a habit of talking about my house in game.

A lot of players simply want to have a house for their character, and instancing stops no one from visiting unless the owner chooses to leave their housing closed to visitors. Last night a friend conned me into downloading a few games we used to play years ago, including RIFT. There are hundreds of Dimensions owned by players I've never met and I can walk right in to take a look despite it all being instanced.

That makes sense. I'm just of the mindset that I cannot be the only one that doesn't care about showing off my yard if that means I get a house with a basement workshop and my own yard to do with what I want. LOL! There must be others out there that want housing. I mean, it beats not having a house at all. Which is where loads of us are at right now. I for one would rather not be without a house. LOL!

Thank you everyone for your constructive replies. That Ciri person could have kept that negativity to themselves. I found that reply to be rather rude and counterproductive.

In any case, it would be nice if they found a better way to implement the housing system that allowed for everyone to have their plot of choice. It feels wrong for the vast majority of us to have to pay full price when housing isn't available to have. Apartments are nice, but they are extremely limited and don't have a basement workshop. So no flying craft or submersible for those who don't have land plots. I don't see that being a fair deal for the price being paid and the monthly sub. There should be some kind of trade off.

Has anyone heard of anything else that may be in the works other than the auction idea? I believe that to be an even worse idea than the current system.

What we know so far:

The Ishgard housing district will be able available for preview in 6.0 and players will be able to purchase in 6.1. It will have the same number of wards as any other housing district (currently 24 with subdivisions). Side note from past experience: saying players will be purchase in 6.1 doesn't necessary mean the same day the 6.1 patch drops. They don't want players to feel like they have to make a choice between doing the new MSQ and doing other new patch content so the additional content gets spread out over several weeks. Expect a delay of at least a couple of weeks before you can actually buy.

The system in general will have some changes. Some wards will be lottery while others will be first come first serve. There was no mention of whether the purchase timer would still be using in the first come first serve wards. Some wards will be designated as personal only, others will be FC only. Adjustments will be made to how relocation works. There was no mention when these changes would go into effect but the assumption is it will happen when Ishgard opens for purchase.

They want to increase in the interior item limit but the last time it was mentioned, YoshiP couldn't give an estimate of when it would happen.

That's about all we know at this point. We'll probably be given a lot more information next year before Ishgard opens. There's always a chance there might be something mentioned during the November Live Letter but I wouldn't count on it.

Also, workshops are FC specific content that require the FC to own a house as opposed to general housing content for any player. If your plan is to buy a personal house, you won't be able to add a workshop.

Thank you so much for that very detailed account. I feel like I'm playing catch up right now. So that was very much needed. So to follow up with that... I'm assuming, because you didn't mention it, that when Endwalker drops that new area won't have available housing? That's disappointing. I was hoping they would add additional servers to the current housing locations at least.
