A curious idea for Gear customisation elements
I was playing today, and whilst looking over my cobalt cuirass, i had a very interesting idea regarding Gear customisation that may appeal to many of you. Feel free to expand or elaborate on this, as it's at the moment not a fully fleshed idea and there are things i may not have considered.
I think of it as a Tailoring system, sacrificing the ability to trade the item, in return for making it custom and unique. It would allow for the toggling of certain visual elements of a piece of gear, (gilding, extras, and visible parts) to make the gear customised to the user wearing it.
For instance,
The cobalt Cuirass, (the chestplate for the cobalt plate set) has many elements added to it that aren't on the older plate chests, the main being the shoulder plates, the gilded crest on the breastplate, and the throat guard attached to the collar.
I choose to tailor my chestplate, rendering it untradable. This allows me to turn off one shoulder pad, and remove the throat guard. Instantly the chestpiece has become very different, rather than the normal knightly appearance, it takes on a more brutal, barbarian or gladiator style.
Stats would be unaffected, and depending on how the new dye system for 2.0 works, it may even still be able to be dyed after customisation. But the point is that this would allow players who wear the same equipment to still be visually distinct from their friends.
The options available for toggling would depend on the equipment, as lower level items have fewer normally visible components, whereas higher level equipment adds more that could be toggled, preserving the differences between high and low level gear in appearance.
