How to become Dark Knight?

I am lvl 49 Paladin.

I own the base game.

Can i be a dark knight? I looted a lvl 32 Sword for Dark Knight and i want to use it.

Also, you need to complete the first expansion main story and gain access to the second expansion and the city of Ishgarde.

You need to complete up to the level 50 main scenario quest (ARR), then you need to complete all of the patch quests (2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4 and 2.5). After that you will begin Heavensward and enter a new area that you didn't previously have access to and Dark Knight can be unlocked there in a place called The Pillars from a quest called "Our End".

Unfortunately you are many hours away from being able to unlock Dark Knight. It is unlockable once you reach the beginning of the Heavensward expansion, but before then you gotta complete the rest of base ARR (which you seem to be close to doing) and then 80 (yes, 80) more quests that bridge the gap between the end of ARR and the beginning of HW.

As a consolation, they never locked jobs behind MSQ ever again after HW, in fact if you own Stormblood, you can switch to Samurai or Red Mage as soon as you hit 50 in Ul'Dah. From stormblood on, level (and owning the expansion) are the only requirements to unlocking expansion classes.

You must finish the entire ARR content and start the Heavensward expansion by accessing Ishgard.

About the loot, it's because the DRK starts at level 30, like AST and MCH.

Wait for Endwalker to come out and you'll be able to unlock it in Ul'dah, provided you've reached level 70 by then /s

I was talking about Reaper, yeah (which seems to check off a lot of the things people wanted DRK to be, albeit as a DPS, based on the discussions I've read). It was a joke lol
