So I planted 3 plots using s scheme to ultimately get thav onion seeds. 2 of them had what I expected to get, but the thirds one had zone, zero, zilch. Is this possible? How frequently can this happen?

depending on the "difficulty" of the crossbreed it's not a guarantee to get seeds with every harvest. XIV Gardening has a probability list I think, been awhile since I've been to the site.
Well, it was their x-breed suggestion and layout AND 2 of the plots delivered the expected number of seeds (I think each one yielded 3 or 3 seeds).
