Did you maybe hand gear into grand company and you might have handed it in by mistake? (if so you can't do anything now, but you can change it to hide gearset items to stop that happening in future).
Or maybe you just put it on a retainer to wear? If you know what the item(s) were call you can use /isearch PARTIALNAME and it'll show you where the item is, if you still have it.
