English typo in the quest "Echoes of an Echo"

Contains Stormblood Spoilers

During the 4.1 post-Stormblood quest "Echoes of an Echo" there is a small typo in the prompt you recieve when you first inspect the magitek pod.

"The device in which Krile was held seems even more ominous now you know its purpose. The surrounding pods are marked "Supply Subject" while this one bears the label "Master Subject." "

The first sentence seems to be missing a conjuction that can connect the clauses in it.
To clear up any possible confusion as to the meaning of the sentence, I'd personally suggest adding a determiner like "that" so that the first sentence instead reads as "... now that you know its purpose."

It's not a typo – nothing is spelled incorrectly – but in any case "that" is optional in that situation. And the sentence is already quite long.

In this context, Typo as in a typographical error - an error relating to printed text.
Whether that's a grammatical error in the text, or just a misspelled word in the text.


Forgive me if I'm wrong, but since you're on the Asian servers, I'm assuming that you might not be a native English speaker. And might therefore not see the grammatical error of having missing conjunctions or determiners like this.
Conjunctions are not optional, disregarding them is a common mistake that leads to a very "unnatural" way of speaking English. "Now you know its purpose." is a perfectly fine independent clause (sentence) on its own.
The need for a conjunction comes when you use it as a subordinate clause and add it onto another independent clause to form a complex sentence. In which case you would also need to add a conjunction that can connect them together.

Without a conjunction you can't correctly express the reference of the noun in the context. Namely the "now", which references the past where we didn't know its purpose, not that we're learning something new in the "now". ​
"Now that you know ..." as opposed to "Now you know ..."

English native here: There's no need for a conjunction in this case. It follows the same logic as a sentence that reads "I now know X." "I now know X" and "I now know that X" mean the same thing and are both correct. Same situation here.

It's just slightly dated English, but I'm pretty sure if you were to ask a linguistics professor, they'd say it's correct.

My understanding is that it's only a typo(graphical error) if it's an error made in the typing – not in the word choice, which is what you are taking issue with. And in any case usually means a spelling error, so "missing word" would be a better summary than "typo".

But in any case, I disagree that it's missing.

I'm a native English speaker from Australia, which is grouped into the Japan servers geographically, and I've always been picky about how to word things correctly.

"That" is an optional word in the sentence you are taking issue with. You could put it in. It's a little more formal and a little less ambiguous to include it, but the sentence is still valid without it.

You say that disregarding conjunctions makes for more unnatural English, but I think it's the opposite. I think the natural way people speak is to often drop those optional "thats" (and indeed, looking back on what I just wrote, I could have said "the way that people speak") and it's only in review that you may decide to add them in for clarity and formality.

If this was an unpublished game and I had the fortunate job of proofreading it, I would possibly insert a "that" there. But I also might decide that the sentence flows better as it is, and the extra degree of clarity is not needed.

As it is, the game is already published and the current wording is not incorrect.

Personally I think it would sound a little better with the 'that's added, but that's just my preference; it's still perfectly grammatically correct as-is.
