Limit housing to 2 plots per-World per-Account

Some people have 3 or more houses on a world by having alts with 2 houses each due to being grandfathered in in the past.

I don't understand why this is allowed while housing is such a limited resource.
This would be such a simple band-aid to free up a few plots for people who have no house on their main. Some people are getting 3x or 4x or more houses for their subscription cost while others can't find an available plot for ONE. It is not any more fair to them that they're allowed to keep more houses than they should have due to having gotten them in the past than it is fair to not demolish inactive player houses.

Give people 45 days to demolish houses on their alts, and if they have more than a single personal and a single FC house on their account for each World then auto-demolish the most recent plots for all the extras.

It's not that many people you make it out to be anymore.

I had I think 4 or 5 houses when it was grandfathered and I now have 2 (FC+personal).
And those minority of people who still has a few houses from the change all years ago, I think it's so miniscule it wouldnt affect the supply.

There is still that couple on Mateus that has 28 plots or close it via only 4 accounts because they're grandfathered in.
I'm sure they're not alone. i know a couple with 3 or 4 on a single account because they're grandfathered in.

Grandfathering in a bad system doesn't fix it. It just prevents it from being made worse than it already is. It does not make it better.

IMO SE needs to give us all access to gardening and workshops outside of housing before we should return to this topic, along with several other QoL improvements to the housing system like giving all alts access to a single personal house on a server.

Once all of those are done, then, and only then, does this conversation make sense.

Except that they are pretty much alone. You could count the number of people, across all servers, who own 10+ personal plots on one hand. If SE were to nuke the grandfathered houses now, which would be setting a dangerous precedent, it would free up around 1/3rd of 1% of the available houses on average per server. Shell FCs are literally 10 times the problem(around 3% per server), and even eliminating that wouldnt make a notable dent in the housing problem. Its a supply issue. There are a bit over 5k houses per server(itll be a touch over 7k once ishgard releases), and north american servers tend to have 15k+ players(plus however many FCs). Doubling the number of wards(which they physically can not do) wouldnt fix the issue, so finding a way to make instanced housing work is likely the only way.

The problem is you'd be punishing people for having characters in more than one FC. What happens if you just drop an alt into a friend's FC if both FCs have housing? Does their house get demolished because you're in there on an alt on the same server as your main's FC? I have alts in two other FCs on Brynhildr. Should my main FC, that I'm the FC leader of (a legit FC, not a shell, there's 18 distinct accounts in here) lose housing because I have alts in other FCs that have housing? Should my friends lose their FC houses just because I'm in there? Do I have to pull my alts out to prevent this?

And SE isn't likely to go back on their word with grandfathering. It's done, it's decided. I understand your frustration, but honestly we need to push more for instanced housing than taking away grandfathered houses. Even if they did decide to go back on their word, it won't solve the issue. Sure, a few more people would have housing, but we'd still have a lot of players going without. On Balmung they don't even have apartments anymore! And with all of Crystal being considered preferred now, we're about to get an influx of players liek whoa.

It's a no win situation, to be certain, and I hope it's a sobering eye opener to the FFXIV devs that this neighborhood idea is simply untenable in the long run.

Hate to be that person but... and? They bought those houses legit. Until SE says it's not any longer okey we should stop harrass and witchhunt that couple. I'm not saying you are but it's not the first time people bring them up.

Eacactly. They're not and the calling for it gets old. They will not penalize people for following the rules. Any new rule changes will affect new additions and not old. They made that decision and it's the right one.

That's not to say things don't need to be fixed because multiple ownership of FC's by one account on the same server needs to be addressed big time.

Given the recent explosion of new players I wouldn't be surprised to see big rule changes coming. I sincerely hope that alts being able to share houses is one of those. I don't think that one house per account is something that is completely out of the question anymore either.

Unfortunately, rule changes/enforcement won't be enough to fix the system. It will always be a problem as long as supply lags behind player population.

This is a poor take.

Many players have invested time and gil into housing that has been grandfathered, and would be heartbroken if they lost those homes. SE knows this, and came up with the solution to grandfather alt-character homes at that time. A vocal minority of players has called for an end to grandfathering, but the playerbase always objects to these calls, and SE has never made mention of them.
