Wanna Glam it? Play it!

The more I've thought about it, I think making it so we can use (almost) any gear on any class *for Glamour purposes* by getting its appropriate class to the requisite level first would be an elegant way to loosen restrictions the way Glamour currently works, and provide incentive for some folks (like me!) to play classes/roles they might not touch otherwise! What I'm describing is a feature they eventually added to Final Fantasy XI! It's quickly become my #1 wish for FFXIV, it really would add a whole new level of freedom..

Want to use a level 70 Tank chestpiece as a DPS or Healer? Level a Tank to 70 and it's yours! Jandor brings up a valid point later in the thread, actually. An alternatively method of assessment would be necessary since some Jobs start way ahead of others, and it would thus be easy to cheat the system...

Can it be done, in terms of the game's code? We can only speculate, but... look, the way I see it if the devs decide something's worth doing they'll figure it out. And the only way we'll get them to that point is if enough of us voice our support so don't forget to like, comment, and hit that sub button~!

I'd be curious to hear what you all think of this as sort of a solution to the "we can't remove class restrictions it would ruin immersion!" excuse (conveniently ignoring all the bikini tanks, people dressed like Sims™, stupid mascot costumes etc.), since it would ensure people had to earn the ability to use, and therefore Glam, whatever gear it is they're after..! Artifact gear could stay class-specific, since basically every one of these threads I've seen most agreed that that should be the case. It's all the in-between sets people wish they could use.

I still want that Copied Factory caster dress for dancer.

Honestly no reason they shouldn't do this either, Paladin gear doesn't stop being Paladin gear just because a Red Mage (with Paladin leveled, and the ability to swap to it and put that gear on) is wearing it. I can see the arguments against it, but realistically none of them matter since it's fair to apply the same lack of restrictions to them too. This was actually the exact same way it worked in FF11 and I don't think anyone complained about it there

That said, regardless of artifact gear it's definitely a long overdue change and a little shameful they haven't done it yet, given the state of some of the ARR equipment you can set on any job and the mounting quantity of 'replica' gear that has no real reason to exist when they should make every set glamourable without level or job restrictions (as long as, noted, you have one job that can equip it normally.)

Would be nice.

I could see the devs considering AF gear the, like, last bastion of class identity? so those sets are something I'd personally be willing to pass on as long as we got some more freedom by being able to use the other sets. Aside from that though yeah, I get the distinct impression a lot of people would be down for a revamped, less restricted Glamour system, so I hope they'll lend this thread their support!

Yeah, but like... weapons? I don't think anyone's asking for a black mage to be able to wield a sword or a warrior to hit people with a black mage staff but that's usually the argument that gets trotted out against the idea. That or something about class silhouettes that's also basically irrelevant.

If we did get the job gear unlocked as glamour I'd actually use some of it without having to worry about constantly overwriting my tank/caster/crafter glamours, right now the system's too much of a pain to deal with so the only people I've actually ever seen in any artifact gear at all are people using it for the actual statistics (i.e., level 50 players after their level 50 job quest but before they get ironworks gear, level 80 players literally running Amaurot) or the occasional blue mage, but I'd absolutely use some of the past expac sets especially for Paladin or Summoner if they'd just let me, and the current system's especially egregious with crafters to the point where I have literally never seen a crafter AF set in the wild

There are no good reasons for treating AF gear as an exception, but it does not matter much if AF gear is treated specially or not since it is so rarely that anyone wants to use it for glamour in the first place.

Aiming gear doesn't fit dancer anyway. I glam over it, just about every time.
