Square’s determination to ruin every seasonal event

To say that this year’s Moonfire is a disappointment is an understatement. Even compared to last year, at the height of covid restraints, they still managed something marginally more interesting than this. Last year we had a fate with unique actions and in exchange we got a full outfit and an emote. This year we just get a basic battle fate and a mount that’s a reskin of the Starlight bear mount. You go there, you play for 20 mins, and you leave and never come back.

If they insist on copy-pasting events, why couldn’t they copy-paste the 2019 installment that people enjoyed and were coming back to play? Even that was itself a copy-paste of 2018 with a few more features. I just don’t get it. You’d think since we’re in a MASSIVE dry spell before 6.0 they’d want to keep people playing somehow, and yet they refuse to give us events with any replayability! Through last Moonfire to last LLD, I was hoping these trimmings/cullings were only going to happen then, because of the ripple effects of covid. But now that they’ve all had a year to adapt, it seems they still want to give us the same low quality events. Quite depressing, really.

I dunno, maybe because the entire dev team is pulling 18h days to get Endwalker ready and as polished as possible before launch day?

To be fair all events are pretty much a let down 20 minutes and your out type thing. I just wanted the tower back. If that was a MFF thing, I can't even remember now.

The events leading up to expansions have always been a tad lackluster IIRC.

Unfortunately the ones where the quality would typically have been a bit higher got slapped about by covid.

Havnt done the new event yet.. but.. I like the look of the polar bear.. much nicer looking thrn the enemy polar bears for one so definitely a worthy mount.. secondly no one replays the events once they've gotten the rewards.. you said 18 and 19.. yeah most just got the items an left like they do with any event

Not liking the rewards is fine; everyone has their right to an opinion, but keep in mind that the devs work way ahead of the actual calendar.

I mean they could have just said “sorry no faire this year” like they did with last Halloween.

They didn't even add the running course and the jumping puzzle.

That's kinda sad.

As a new player its kind of sad we cant play past seasonal events. And all events Ive seen so far were very lackluster.

"Determined to ruin" is exaggerating, but yes the events have been rather poor quality or just non-existent ever since Covid started. I'll outright skip any that don't have a mount, emote or minion because I just can't be bothered with the bland 10 minute chore quest that's only there for the sake of it. Moogle tomes are also rather unimaginative.

I can appreciate they're stretched a bit on resources, but they've had some good events back in the past. I hope they can start putting a bit more effort into them with Endwalker. Just feedback that they could be much better, the current ones don't feel like there's any inspiration, more that they're just pushing them out because they have to.

For those new to FFXIV, seasonal events tend to go back and forth with scope and quality. One year will be pretty grand while the next will be smaller and more laid back. Keyword there is "tend." If it becomes a trend next year, then you'll have to worry.
