Crafting now
So, I have small children and because of that I get the majority of my fun in the game doing synthesis. With that in mind, thank you SE for taking the timer bar away. Everything else, I hate.
I'm not sure what the goal is, but it was bound to be some sort of nerf. In 1.21 even without skills I would get the occasional great success for 70, 80, and sometimes more quality. Now in 1.22 I'm back to quality at the most as 60ish with a +200% buff on. Not to mention pointless elemental destabilization is back for synths 5+ levels lower than my current level.
I liked before that if I had decent gear and decent traits equipped and used properly I could get a 10-20% chance of hq on the higher level synths (52+), now I don't see any chance of that.
I just don't understand, 1.21 crafting changes were high praise from almost everyone, why kill off everything in that patch that most all people loved and revert back to this junk?
If this is the direction you guys are moving, stick to it I guess, but the 1.21 system was a lot more 'fun'

Yeah I thought I was imagining things, but it does seem HQing and Crafting got "harder" in certain regards outside of the "hard" crafts.

As I said, overall 1.22 seems like a real downgrade in crafting. In fairness I've only crafted on my 40 GSM so far, I have not tried my 50s yet. But 1.22 makes me sad.

Those pointless instabilities actually give you massive quality boost if you use the correct brand of "element".
Crafting is better than its ever been in my opinion.
If you want a high chance of HQing you need to start with all HQ mats, they have made it so that HQing with normal mats is very hard and can only be accomplished on low level synths with a high level class.
Farm or buy some HQ materials and you should be good to go if you have the correct abilities set.
FWIW I am using, Masterpiece, Brand of "element", Grand design, Flawlessness and Fulfilment, try that and see if you have any more luck.
