Retainer Question

Hello everyone,

As far as I am aware retainers helps you sell stuff on the Market Board,

My questions are as it follows:

1) Do they only cater after crafters/gatherers?

2) What’s the point of sending them for hunts, field explore & other once retainer is at 80?

3) As a non-crafter/gatherer myself do I really need 2 more retainers?

4) Once retainer is at 80, does it make any difference on gearing them with 520 Cryptogear & increase the chances to get good rare items & other stuff?

1) Do they only cater after crafters/gatherers?
They can sell any tradable item. i'm not sure what you mean by "cater" though. You don't need crafters or gatherers to get items for them to sell, it just comes out of your (or their) inventory.


2) What’s the point of sending them for hunts, field explore & other once retainer is at 80?
Hunts can give you specific monster drops that might sell well or you might need for a recipe, Field explorations and quick explorations give you random drops that might either be unobtainable other ways (certain pets and gear) or untradable. XP for the retainer is one aspect but also as important is the items they bring back.



3) As a non-crafter/gatherer myself do I really need 2 more retainers?

It's extremely subjective. If we're speaking strictly do you NEED them to enjoy the MSQ and be able to hold enough storage to play the game, the answer is no. Between your armory chest, saddlebag, 2 free retainer storage and personal inventory you should have enough storage to keep gear and consumables for all your jobs. If you're going to dabble in Glamour collecting though space will become a premium. 400 slots in the glamour dresser seems like a lot .. until it's not.

4) Once retainer is at 80, does it make any difference on gearing them with 520 Cryptogear & increase the chances to get good rare items & other stuff?
There are thresholds for getting rare stuff but according to most research it doesn't matter how much you are over, just that you get the message that they can bring back rare items.

Hi there! Some responses and suggestions:

1) They are useful for anyone

2)Passive Money maker.:
convert junk dungeons drops into Grand Conpany currency, use those to buy ventures and then send your retainers on 18 hour ventures. You will quickly accumulate lots of allagan coins which is cash money. Even more if you funnel these coins to the Doma Restoration.

3) No; they are useful for storage space. You don’t need more than 2.

4) ehh. As long as you can send them on the highest possible 18 hour thing it doesn’t matter. Or you can gamble with the other ventures.

Bonus)

I recommend you make your retainers the same job if your plan is to maximize income, and furthermore suggest the job match your main (so both are paladins or fishermen)

If you are paying several months in advance (I forget the plan name, but not monthly payment) you get up to 8 characters on your server. You can easily level fisher to 80 in like a week and as long as your alt can run a few dungeons solo you can easily gather items for ventures for more profits.

Make money with ultra low effort but obvisouly not very much but still.
As I do : send my retainers on 1 hour ventures. If lucky, they drop interesting housing furnitures and some are expensive.
If not, they drop gears. Then I turn-in gears to Grand Company for seals. And with those seals, I bought Glamour Prism and sell them to MB.
Furthermore, I bought token venture.

If really lucky because it's rare, retainers can drop gears/dyes that sold to MB around 200-500K.

3) 2 in more than enough for the majority of players. And you have to pay a monthly sub if you want more than 2.

4) No. But put them at iLvL 500 will be ready for EW. I recon LvL 90 and iLvL 500 will be good for doing LvL 90 ventures. As now LvL 80 and iLvL 400.
