Coming to Ishgard quest problem

Just purchased the MSQ skip item to get to the start of Heavensward. I am trying to complete "Coming to Ishgard". I speak to the Temple Knight Guardian at the Gates of Judgement who lets me in to Ishgard, but the quest marker stays on him and the quest does not seem to proceed to the next stage. Please help!!! Thanks.

I don't know what the problem is, but be aware that the story for each expansion is interconnected. The story in the expansions that follow make deep use and reference to events and characters in the previous expansions, so by skipping ARR you may not understand the rest.
