Would you support a Final Fantasy XIV "Classic" option like WoW with 1.0?

I personally would love to experience the 1.0 storyline. I am not saying it needs to be a completely separate mode, but I wouldn't mind it being folded into the New Game + with a Classic 1.0 option.

Not sure how it would work at all but would be cool to experience it.

1.23 maybe, but definitely not 1.0.

Edit. To elaborate. Here's something I said in a similar thread a while back.

The thing is that for quite a few of the v1 players. ARR was in a sense Final Fantasy XIV 3.0. (not 2.0.)

The reason being that to a lot of those players who stuck around. (myself included) the 1.20 - 1.23 patches were a total game changer and a completely different experience to 1.0 - 1.19.
1.2 was like a mini reboot in itself (hence it being a pseudo 2.0 sense). So often what you see is when people refer to 1.0 in what is shall we say a more positive light. It's not so much rose tinted glasses It's just there referring to the latter end of its lifespan, 1.2 forwards where they actually started adding a decent story and actual content with things like "To Kill a Raven", "United we stand" and the rest of the Dalamund story, Relic Weapons and associated content, Hamlet Defence. all of this stuff actual content. Where as 1.0 - 1.19 literally had ZERO content at all and an attrocius story. (if you could even call it a story in the first place.)

1.20 also revamped the battle system in a way which I and a lot of others wish they'd kept coming into ARR. Rather than going to the ADHD button spam route of WoW, where none of your skills carry weight or feel impactful, they all just feel like a glorified auto attack. Where in 1.2 you pressed a button and it felt like something happened. This was one of the biggest talking points back in the beta phases for ARR. Here it's often seen as too quick and weightless. which when you see the speed at which a warrior throws their big heavy battle axe around for ewxample. just doesn't feel big, heavy or even powerful. it's feels like a paperweight..

1.20 also had more randomised bosses. Although still scripted to some fashion it wasn't as heavily scrpted as ARR where boss will always do move a, move b, move c, move d. In 1.2 it was often the boss is going to do a move.it can be a, b, c, or d. But it wont be the same one he used last time.. It's not a massive difference but it did require players to be on there toes a lot more and arguably a higher level of skill because fights were a little more dynamic.

All of that said though, Was it perfect? Hell NO!!
But the changes they made and the direction they started heading in with 1.20 was a massive shift and a totally different experience to what was 1.0 -1.19. It showed a lot of potential and the future looked very promising as it was heading in a more Final Fantasy direction. It's just a shame to many people that ARR basically scrapped it all and decided to go in the direction of a WoW clone instead.

Be interesting to see what it could have been had they stuck to that direction but alas we shall never know..

I don't know if there's any real way to do that. 1.0 was an entirely different beast, it had a completely different world map (that was muuuuch larger but also largely copy and pasted, and Coerthas wasn't in constant winter).

Also if I recall correctly, 1.0 was actually kinda plot lite. I don't know if very much actually happened.

Eureka and bozja kinda fill in the old ways of leveling and such. Think if anything would be cool if they somehow tossed in 1.0+ into NG+, maybe as some kinda cutscene story recap.

Nah.. I played 1.0. While the story and all that was OK, the gameplay was not fun. Just tolerable.

Yeah sure, why not.

I'd definitely be down for that. However, on one hand I agree with the first reply to the topic, because 1.2~1.23 while not perfect was decent and still felt very distinct versus being a WoW clone DDR edition with fireworks show.
On the other hand, I never experienced the pre 1.2+ combat system, including the stamina that people seem to really hate. Maybe I'd hate it too, but IDC, I wish I could try it. I actually LIKE slower paced combat with longer wait and more focus on reaction and choosing what to do instead of a choreography. It's why I like the first Xenoblade so much.

I think they literally can't do it though. The closest thing would be just offering an alternative in the current engine, which would mean same world/story but the combat and jobs and systems etc would not at all be like the real thing.

Which is a shame. Modern FF hates jRPG gameplay conventions, while pre ARR the game actually pushed use of your ability to swap between several jobs and I'm pretty sure you could even swap mid-dungeon (but not mid-battle). Experimenting with compositions and character setup to me is integral to an engaging jRPG experience. And present FF doesn't have that.

Plot lite compared to ARR yes. But already pretty lore rich.

Nope. Even Yoshi P has said this in interviews multiple times. I find it insulting to the people that played from 1.0 up to 2.0 that stayed with the MMO unlike myself who dealt with a truly terribly designed MMO.

I'd be curious to experience it, since from what I've seen of the design of the game world and story elements it took itself a bit more seriously and embraced realism and danger to a larger degree.

I don't see it happening, though - 1.0 is widely considered to be a hot mess and the development team appear eager to wash their hands of pretty much everything that ties back to those days.
